Why are people so bad at making right turns?
On the way to Indio yesterday morning (for the Coachella music festival) there was an intersection where the right lane of one road was cordoned off by bright orange cones. We also saw a police car that was right atop the sidewalk and off the street facing this created right turn only lane.

So in about three minutes of being in the vicinity the officer yelled over his megaphone at about 10 different cars for coming to full stops before making the right turn instead of opening their fucking eyes that they were entering a right turn only lane completely guarded from any oncoming traffic from the intersecting road.

In everyday situations way too many people hesitate at making right turns and hold up traffic and make me angry :(.

1. Well, they were probably being extra careful because a cop was there
I know I tend to tense up and drive extra conservatively when I see a cop, even when I know I'm not drunk, the car is legal and I'm not transporting narcotics.

5. Yeah. Duh.
Cop on the scene takes precedence over any signs or signals. If the police officer is not actually waving traffic along, of course it's going to slow or stop.

2. Turning to the right is unnatural.
The world spins to the left.

3. My first ever right turn.

We were stopped at a stop sign. They have since added a traffic light there, but at the time, it was a stop sign.

My driver's ed teacher told me to turn right. It was my first ever right turn. I did a donut around that stop sign and ended up right back where I was.

The driver's ed teacher actually sighed out loud. :eyes:

He told me to try it again but to stop turning right halfway through. Worked like a charm. I haven't screwed up a right turn since.
