I just lent my little brother $200
Well, half of it was his birthday present and the other half he'll pay back. He has 3 bills due on Weds. that he can't default on.

I will expect to receive that in...oh, 2020 or so...

I'm the only one in my immediate family with any money sense...I offered to teach him how to construct and stay within a budget over the summer. He thinks that's a good idea. :)

2. Ha! No...
As I said to him, he works FT, takes care of my Mom with ALS and my Dad with MS, and I don't really want him to have more stress than he already has. I'll learn him this summer on money matters, promise. :)

:hi:

4. I gave him a good verbal ass kicking this evening
on his finances. :D

If he doesn't get it, I'll have Sniffa and my friends give him one in Poker this Summer. ;)

5. Comprendo. What I enjoy is being sent the "paying back the loan"
check, and then being told to "hold onto it for a couple of weeks, until I get paid". A couple of weeks becomes months, and I usually end up tearing up the check...or losing it. Not a lot of money sense among my sibs and cousins, either.

But it was good of you to help him out!

8. Eh, I don't really expect it back, but
as part of his getting his shit together on finances, I will make sure that he pays me back. It's a lesson :D

7. Look on the bright side
At least your little brother doesn't work for you. I let my baby brother convince me to buy another truck a few years ago so he could drive it. The only good thing about it is when he screws up I call his momma and let her straighten him out. It works every time.

:D

And teaching good budgeting skills is a good life lesson for him to learn. Luckily, my parents are still the cash stars of the family so I haven't recieved any phone calls as of yet.

A friend of mine is also very well off and his dead-beat family constantly tries to "borrow" from him. This same family is the one who kicked him out of the house eight years ago at 18 for being gay and hardly remembers to invite him to family events.

10. That was nice of you
My brother called me today hoping to borrow some money - several thousand - for a down payment -

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=7688770&mesg_id=7688770

- but I just don't have it right now. I'm already stretched paying for school. :(

I felt bad, just because it would be so nice to be able to say, "sure, no problem." My family hasn't got the best money sense, I suppose, but they've also had to struggle all their lives. I'm in better shape than most of the rest...

Meh, what are you gonna do?

12. Oh, I feel you...
Normally I wouldn't be able to lend it to him, actually. This is a freak occurrence.

I'm a FT student, Sniffa works FT, but is also going back to school in the Fall. :o
