Mrs. V. is probably going home for a month to help with her dad (Alzheimer's)

Fucking god damned piece of shit disease.

He's now so delusional, he thinks that his faithful wife of almost sixty years is cheating on him. Nothing could hurt Mom more, not even if he didn't recognize her - which may very well be coming. It seems that he's even ripped up their marriage license.

Mrs. V. is talking to her boss today about working from Tennessee. She'll have to buy one of those card thingies for her work PC and subscribe to a service (I don't know what all of that's called).

She's beside herself, my beloved: she is at a total loss for what to do. Mom so far refuses to think about even home health, let alone finding a new place for Dad. It's one of the reasons my baby wants to go home, I think: to handle everything.

To handle everything. My baby's been so very stressed... I know she can handle this, and that her mom seriously needs the help, the input, the direction, and honestly for someone else to take the reins (if only she'll relinquish them). But I do worry about Mrs. V. She internalizes everything and seldom talks about her feelings. I don't have a problem with that; I only wish I could help her.

Please pray for or send your best wishes to Mrs. Venation. She's the light of my life, and it hurts to see her in such a state. I love her family too, and this whole thing is just seriously fucked up.

Thanks.

3. Hugs to all of you. I'm experiencing something like that with my dad, and I
know it is hard on all of you. It seems there are no perfect solutions, and it changes daily; and being separated from your partner makes it all even harder to bear, I know. Wishing all the best to all of you.

14. Mine, too.
Unfortunately, I wasn't around to help my sisters bear the burden. I'd moved away from home before her dementia became pronounced.

10. I just watched the movie "Away From Her".
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 10:46 AM by Finnfan
It was excellent; a really good portrait of that disease and what it does to the victims and their families. I had no idea that people with Alzheimer's go through a stage when they actually understand what's happening to them - before, finally, that knowledge is gone too. The movie also deals with the choice of caring for a loved one at home or putting them in a special facility.

I feel for you. Give Mrs. V our best.
