Bought a Martin guitar today :-) ! (PIC HEAVY)
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 08:38 PM by TheFriendlyAnarchist
Martin DCX1E, $730 with case and a pack of strings, so it was kinda pricey. The looks are deceiving though, it's a little plain, but once I picked it up and started playing, it was beautiful. I am very happy. This is the guy that will be coming with me to Germany next year :D

EDIT: Hmmm, the pics are re-sized in photobucket, but they're showing up full scale here. Anyone know how to fix that?

1. Nice, nice, nice....
It's one of those guitars that you get lost in the single strums, ain't it? You know, play a D chord and just let it fade...

Congrats!!!

5. Lol, a year ago I never would have thought I could have ever justified buying a Martin
But I felt that I had gotten good enough that I could treat myself to something nice :)

3. Photobucket has another one of their piss-poor "features"
you'll have to select "1 meg" in the Resize to drop-down in order for them to leave the pics alone.

I hate photobucket more with each new 'feature'

4. Nice looking instrument
They are still making good guitars.

I've got a D-18 that was made in 1962 and I bought used in 1967.

Still sounds sweet.

7. good instruments will only get better as you play them.
congrats on your new guitar. play the hell out of it and listen to it open up over the next few years. looks don't matter as much as the tone.

10. Nice. I like the minimalist look. My wife has an Alvarez-Yari DY 60 and it
sports that minimalist look. She's had it for 26 years. Yours looks to have a semi gloss finish. That's what the Yairi has. Much better than the gloss finish. Fingerprints don't show in the lights. The heel on the neck looks interesting. Love to see another image showing that. It also appears, by the looks of the fingerboard, you make full use of the cutaway.

The wood is what makes a guitar attractive, but the playing is what makes it beautiful.

I know she'd rather have a Martin, but life isn't fair. Enjoy

11. Yea, the fingerboard on this one is nice. No inlays, made of Martin's Micarta
and the neck is made of Stratabond. Not wood, but looks beautiful and very strong. I was a little unsure about a guitar having so much HPL, but it sounded great all the same, and it'll probably take some abuse since it's likely I'll be running around with it. It's nice having the finish that wont need polished when you look at it wrong either.

I'll see if I can get a pic up later if you like

my wife's guitar. Maybe I will take hers out and photograph it. It has a clear pick guard, rosewood back and sides. Bindings are wood too.

This is similar to her guitar. The binding around the sound hole is all wood and is a bright red.

20. Welcome to the Martin fold!
I waited twenty years for my Martin (kids are expensive, ya know?), but I finally got it in 1999, an HD-28 LSV. Now I wonder why I waited all those years!

I love Martins, and I'll admit to being a snob about 'em: if it doesn't come from Nazareth, PA, it's just not good enough! There's just something about the Martin sound that nobody else can duplicate. Collings can make a guitar to the same specs as a Martin dread, use the same woods, glues, etc., and it won't sound like a Martin!

Good pickin'!!

Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 06:09 PM by TheFriendlyAnarchist
however I'm too poor to be picky :P (16 year-old people tend to be that way). I was just happy to finally own a quality guitar. I've been rolling an Epiphone Les Paul, which is a good starter guitar, but it isn't exactly what one would call a fine instrument. Despite it's lack of fancy adornments and it being relatively low-end Martin, I've still fallen in love :loveya:

When you really love a guitar, you want to play it more (and THAT, of course, is a good thing!!).

There's nothing like a Martin acoustic guitar! Enjoy!

Edited to add: Does it have the onboard electronics?

28. Indeed it does. I haven't really had much of a chance to play with it yet
I don't have an acoustic amp, and while it 'works' through an electric, the sound isn't terribly great and it sounds more like a muted electric. I don't have any cash to spend on an acoustic amp ATM, and the point of the acoustic was so that I could drag it to Europe with me without having to lug an amp as well. However I'll probably look into it when I get back.

29. There are a coule of Fender Acoustasonic amps that sound pretty good.
Depending on how much $$$$ you want to part with, and/or how much juice you want. But they produce a good acoustic tone. Check 'em out when you get back from across the pond, and have a good trip!

Holy crap, are you flying with it? You sure you want to let the airline handle your new baby?

30. Lol, Hell no. I'm going to have it shipped when I figure out where I'm going
I know the owner of the shop pretty well, he was going to help me pack it, loosen the strings, etc. It's not optimal, but I'm absolutely terrified of airline baggage handlers, and there wasn't really a good way to get a guitar over there, and I wasn't terribly impressed with any of the travel guitars. I looked at carbon composites, but between the price and the fact that no one carried any that I could actually play first, this was pretty much my best bet.

22. Just brought my 1st one recently also
...and I'm a little older (just a little!).
I had a 12 string no name since '67 (actually Contessa, which was made by Hofner, I think). I stopped into Guitar Center (Miami) recnetly and saw a 12 - I think it's the same series as yours without the cutaway. It was $699. Of course, I passed on it and pined for a couple of weeks. Went back and there it was.
Paid xtra for the case, but it rings.
Think I'll save up for a Martin six-string now.
Enjoy and play well!

As for Martin, they refused to hire women when I applied so fuck 'em. I buy Ovation, which may not be as mellow over time but endure.

Enjoy your investment and may it bring you pleasure.
