1. I'm guessing 95% of the posts there are parodies
They have to be.

2. I don't think so.
I've read more than I care to admit and they really think like that.

3. That is so sad.
Can you imagine how miserable you would have to be to wish for the end of the world?

6. Actually, they are quite delighted by the prospect.
I don't think it is sad so much a scary.

7. Religion allows some people to be delusional and have hallucinations...

8. You're absolutely correct. My parents are two of them.
The most scary part of it all, is that alot of these people "enable" the situation. They push for all this Middle Eastern chaos, they refuse to acknowledge climate change and environmental issues - ALL because the Bible says the world won't end that way.

So the "rapture-ready" lunatics are in lock-step with the neocons. I have zero tolerance for these nuts who are more than willing to destroy my future, and my children's futures, so that they can leave this horrible horrible place and be whisked away to mansions and pearly gates.

9. That pretty much summarizes my concern with that view.
Believing in the Rapture makes one delusional. Insisting that the state believe in it makes one dangerous.

4. Jesus is coming in on an airplane?
That kind of busts my bubble. I figured he'd just walk across the Atlantic and come in through Ellis Island. :(

11. One of these nights at about twelve o'clock....
"One of these nights at about twelve o'clock
this whole earth's gonna reel and rock...
things thay'll tremble and cry for pain
for the Lord's gonna come in his heavenly airplane..."

You may know it best as the introduction to Joan Osbourne's "One of Us", but apparently it was a real gospel song.

12. We ourselves have....
We ourselves have a few secular fundies who think the "world will end/revolution is around the corner/fascism is finally here" every time the price at the pump goes up or there's an election around the corner.

"Is it fascism yet...?" sounds just as absurd to me as does the pastor in the OP.

22. I think they'd need something with anti-psychotic properties.
Perceiving non-existent global conspiracies and hearing the voice of an angry god sound like just the sort of problems a little thorazine can solve.

17. That place always makes me snicker until
I think about how dead serious these freaks are and these people are the exact reason I gave up on organized religion. Spiritual/religious people need to be more vocal about opposing these freaks because they make them look very badly.

20. I think I know why they don't.
Any argument that the Fundy's point of view is irrational or ridiculous opens the critic up to the very same argument. Fundamentalism and liberal religion share the same underpinnings of belief and irrationality. Ultimately a liberal believer has more in common with Fundies than s/he does with skeptics.

As a side note, Fundyism rejects the idea of spirituality which is apparently too mystical for their puritanical ideology. They reject the notion categorically.

I especially like the point of fundamentalism being opposed to mysticism which is supposedly too pagan. :eyes:

28. That's strange.
My parents live right down the street from the local airport (no commercial flights). A lot planes coming and going, I've seen the occasional air show from their deck, but I never saw the King of Glory coming in on a cloud surrounded by legions of angels. And why would they think that would sound like a jet engine anyway?

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "God is my co-pilot" I guess.
