I've been scarce because I'm making a big move out of NYC
After 27 years I'm leaving the city to go home to the Jersey Shore. I ended up buying the Jetta, and my girlfriend and I got a new apartment - 2 floors in a Victorian house 2 blocks from the beach. You can see the ocean from my bedroom and with the windows closed you can hear the surf. And another cool thing, every other house is either waving a rainbow flag or the Human Rights Campaign yellow equal signs.

I'm sure it's going to be wonderful but it's a big, big change. And a long commute. But I'm going to be green and take the train, not drive. Maybe I'll finally become the advid reader I always wanted to be.

Like Bon Jovi says - Who Says You Can't Go Home

1. What town are you moving to?
I'm quite partial to LBI myself but I'm guessing it's a little too far south to commute into the city every day. Still, sounds like you got yourself a sweet pad, I'm quite jealous

4. Ocean Grove
It's between Asbury Park and Bradley Beach.

8. That's a nice area and would explain the victorian houses
Although I'm surprised that there are so many HRC and rainbow flags there because I thought that community had a pretty strong Christian presence

9. It does! It's a really interesting dynamic.
When I was a kid I remember you weren't allowed to drive your car in town on Sundays. And they still have a huge cross on the beach.

Also it's still a dry town. But you can walk over Wesley Lake into Asbury Park and party like crazy.

15. I didn't realize that the housing crisis had tanked its most recent come back
Apparently a lot of people who bought the white elephant victorians hoping to make a quick profit are screwed.

2. It sounds wonderful
Best of luck! I'm sure you'll get into a routine riding the train.

3. I hear Tolstoy's "War and Peace" is nice
and looooong. I rode the train down from the city once with Mom, only as far as Long Branch, and let me tell you, I do NOT envy you that on a daily basis! You must be made of stern stuff indeed... have you looked into the ferries from Atlantic Highlands?

7. Ye gods!
One wonders why anyone who could afford a $600 a month commute wouldn't be able to afford to stay in the city.

10. Wow! I'm jealous. I would love to live by the shore.
To hear the ocean from my windows? That would be absolute heaven on earth.

13. When I was a kid I took it for granted
We weren't right on the shore, about a mile away.

I hope I never let that happen again.

14. My dad calls it Ocean Grave!
My 85 year old parents live in Tinton Falls, about ten minutes away, so it will feel good to be closer to them ( Even if they are republicans )
