Lounge: How would you interpret this sentence?
Email from my Ex:

"I have big news, and I really need to get in touch with you. I keep losing your number. Please contact me. Hope all is well."

Ok... "big news". Good news? Bad news? I'm concerned. I emailed him back immediately, and called, but there was no answer. :scared:

1. Maybe he's getting married?
Or a family member is ill? I tend to think big news is good rather than bad, however. Hope I'm right.

If it was good news, wouldn't he just tell me in the email?

7. I think it's probably good news.
If it were bad news, he would have probably just stated that he needed to get in touch with you ASAP.

 for hoping it's good news for him and not bad news for you.

8. He's preggers and he'll be hitting you up for a maternity suit.
Have you won a state lottery lately? I find that's a good way to stay in contact with old friends.

10. that's weird
"big news" usually means good news, but why would an ex need to get in touch with you via phone for good news? Why not just tell you in the email and then ask for you to call to talk about it in greater detail?

I hope it's nothing bad or serious. Are you still friends with this ex?

11. I'd guess good news.
I don't think he'd call it "big news" if it were bad. Hope everything's OK (and potentially great).

13. Not such good news
If it was good, he'd put it in the email. Bad, maybe doesn't want a paper trail?

so hard to tell with such limited info

I hope everything is ok though. and I loved your haircut the other day, but I was using a friend's laptop that day and it was a pain to use so I didn't reply to many posts that I wanted to so I'll just say it now. :)

16. He's becoming an economist.
That would be 1)big news because he's giving up his career as a painter of Thomas Kinkade designs,
2)he needs to get in touch with you to borrow your course notes and
3)the new career choice explains why he keeps losing your number. Economists are always losing numbers.

I think it's good news and too
important to say in an email. He wanted to tell you personally.

17. It's gonna be "good" news.
"Big news" is good news. "Something important I need to talk to you about" would be iffy. "Something has happened. I need to get in touch with you" is definitely Bad.

:hi:
