Nothing confirmed yet, but the internets are filled with RIP Albert Hoffman threads right now.

All I can say is, thanks.

Here is his myspace with a few messages about his passing at 102.

1. RIP
Not that I'm a big fan of LSD, but still, drugs are usually good...for me. It's the lack of them that makes life horrendous.

2. Shit, I didn't know he was alive
I dressed as "him" every Halloween back in my 20s..lol. It was basically a Dr's coat and I would wear some freaked out shit and said I was Dr. Hoffman, most people had no clue.

RIP DR, thanks for the trip.

5. The Albert Hoffman's here in my office agree he's dead, 3-2.
The Albert Hoffman with three purple heads and the Albert Hoffman dressed up like Queen Victoria remain steadfastly is disagreement- that Albert Hoffman is alive, and that Albert Hoffman is a bowl of lavendar flavored ice cream, respectively.

9. Well, the joke was, no, it's not supposed to be.
But it actually is. My kid picked up some lavender ice cream at, I think, Trader Joe's last thanksgiving.

Goes great with apple pie.

6. If we all took some LSD, would we think he was still alive, if not a flying teacup ticking a gerbil?
I'm sure there are legitimate uses for the stuff, but it is remembered mostly as a drug that incites hallucinations in a way that makes the person believe they are real. Take some LSD, think you can fly like Superman, and end up a grease spot on a sidewalk for some canine to lick or leak on... I would not want to be remembered for that creation. :(

8. You really gotta stop watching Dragnet my friend......
Seriously. Like any other drug some people can't handle it and that gets blown out of proprtion to the validity of the statement.

Dr hoffman called it his problem child. He also took it fairly recently, if I recall.

11. My LSD scorecard: 6 good trips, and 1 good trip that turned very bad toward the end.
I wasn't injured, at least physically, but I did spent a couple of hours lying on a couch having the most horrendous thoughts/visions of my entire life. I came out of it all right, but I now understand how the drug can send an unlucky few into psych wards.

That said, 3 of the 6 aforementioned "good trips" occurred AFTER this terrible experience, and I'd have to say that acid has been a net positive for me, by far.

12. It is pretty slippery.....
my scorecard is about 1500 to 2. both of those were alcohol related however. But I nevr just took it. I was a meticulous planner and always tried to set the mood. (set and setting according to Dr Leary). But once a year I ahve a walking around high where I just take it and do the things I always do. Go to a bar, to the movies, out to dinner etc...Things I ordinarily would not think of doing while tripping.

I love concerts and festivals.. Burningman especially.

13. Ah, it's the combination of substances, I guess. My one bad trip was marijuana-related.
I'd just gotten back from a midnight showing of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," which was totally awesome on acid, and I stupidly, obliviously proceeded to hit this girl's vaporizer for about 45 minutes straight, long after the others with me had laid off. Then I somehow got into some disturbing thought patterns about myself as a person, and from there it was a descent straight into hell. The next day I was so burnt-out and psychologically bruised that I felt like crying about every 5 minutes, but I recovered enough to finish out the last couple weeks of school just fine.

14. When I read the subject line, I thought it was referring to Abbie Hoffman.
I was going to ask: hasn't he been dead for years????

Anyway, RIP Mr. Albert Hoffman.

17. Ah, Hoffman. The accidental tourist!...
...I bow to you, Bennyboy, in terms of your trips. I'm a piker by comparison. My problem with LSD is that I tended to ingest it in less-than-brilliant circumstances. Still, I found most of my experiences with hallucinogens to be incredibly helpful, one way or the other. I ultimately sided with Richard Alpert/Ram Dass in terms of my own "sadhana," but I won't shut any doors on my future. The driving of this whole business underground, from the late '60s on, is a genuine tragedy. I sense there is some light on the horizon.

...is an excellent book on the history of LSD, starting with Hoffman's interesting bike ride and covering everything that followed.

21. Well, then I'd suggest you be very careful, and only drop a tab or two.
LSD is an extremely powerful substance, with the potential to be either a beautiful dream or a horrible nightmare. See post #13 for an example of how a trip can turn bad.
