Post-op Pupdate

And it's good news!!! The doc just called and said that Simon is waking up from anesthesia. Everything went perfectly! They got the valve opened up and the pressure on his little heart was immediately dropped by half. He did great with the anesthesia and there have been no complications!

The doc is going to call me again later to update me on Simon's condition. He did say that Simon will need a re-check in 1-2 months to make sure everything is still working properly.

But right now i am just breathing a *HUGH* sigh of relief!!! I can't wait to bring him home tomorrow. :D

Thank you all for the hugs and thoughts and vibes! :grouphug:

21. Probably tomorrow afternoon

Assuming everything keeps going well (fingers crossed)... they want to keep him for observation 24 hrs post-surgery, so that would put us at early afternoon tomorrow.

I'll be there the moment they'll let me take him home! :D

He had a pulmonary stenosis, which made his heart work super-overtime getting blood to his lungs. :(

But hopefully he'll be all patched up now! :D

41. I HAZ A PUPPY!!!

And he's great! A little the worse for wear... he is sporting a sweet hot-pink neck bandage over the incision site, and his veins must have been tough because all 4 legs are shaved! :(

But he's home and happy as can be, although very sleepy. We went for a nice walk and he is zonked out on the couch now.

Now the exciting thing will be, how am i going to keep him mellow for the ***TWO WEEKS*** that his stitches have to stay in??? Argh... first thing when we walked in the door, he and Elmo went into super wrestle-mode. This is going to be interesting.

Here's a pic for you lost :)

44. OMG - he's an angel!
Funny how quickly they learn where they're "safe" isn't it? He sure looks like he knows he's found his forever home.

Congrats on having him home. You may have to keep the two dogs separated for a couple of days but my experience is that stitches heal faster than the recommended two weeks. Had to ask my vet if he had any recommendations as to exactly HOW one keeps a 3 year old Lab from running when my Beau had his first knee surgery. The vet just said "yeah good luck with that".

61. Haha -- my vet pretty much said the same thing

But so far so good (knocks on wood)! They've mostly been hanging out and chewing on rawhides today. When they wrestle, Elmo has been pretty good about laying down and letting the little one chew on him, LOL. I figure as long as the puppy is on top and doing the chewing, it should be OK!

I think the poor little guy must have been awake and frantic for 3 days straight, though -- he's been sleeping SO much since we got him home!

Your little guy is so adorable, I was really pulling for him and thinking about him yesterday during his surgery. So glad to hear he came through surgery. Been there recently myself and I know the anticipation/trepidation. Bet you're breathing easier now. Enjoy your little one and post pictures when you can.

I'm in awe of what we (they - the vets/surgeons etc) can do now to prolong the lives of our little companions. This is great news and Simon should lead an almost perfectly normal life for a good long time to come now, I would think.

I'm really happy for you.
