anyone else bothered by those new Nationwide insurance commercials
The ones where a guy or gal is looking out the window while talking to their friend about their new car as they watch said new car get demolished and yet they say nothing about it to their friend.

You'd think they'd at least say, "oh by the way, some woman just dropped a TV and couch onto your car."

2. they better be
considering your friend thought it more prudent to shut up and just watch your car getting demolished.

3. Funny, I was thinking the same thing when I saw one last night
I know I'D be mad if my friend watched my car get trashed while idly asking me about my insurance coverage.

4. I had the same reaction. But that's how we are today...
...passively watching the world happen as if we're seeing it on television. "That girl just threw her boyfriend's shit on top of my friend's car. Hmm. Probably scratched the paint. But what can I do? Now she's throwing a television... now a chest of drawers. The car's totaled. My. What an interesting show."

6. Someone on DU actually...
...reacted to a news story of a killing of a Mexican sheriff in a violence-plagued border town by posting that the story reminded him/her of a recent movie. That's all -- no comments on what it's like for the Mexicans to have to live with assassinations, disappearances, and the like, but "Dude, sounds like a movie I just saw." I haven't been able to get that post out of my mind.

7. it's a rubber-necking syndrome
people would much rather slow down and look at the crash than stop to see if everyone is alright. It's the same thing on America's Home Videos, let's keep the camera rolling instead of putting it down to check on your kid who just fell down/got hit in the head/pushed down a hill.

5. I despise those.
Thanks for weighing in; I hate those more than I can say. They seem to feed into that Nation of Narcissists vibe that's so prevalent in the media. You know what I mean: cultivate voyeurism and archness, avoid empathy, and it's all so amusing if it's happening to someone else and not you.
