Trying to pick out a dress for a dinner tomorrow...Cleavage issue!
Ok, so the Econ Dept honors dinner is tomorrow night. I want to wear this cute wrap dress I have, but I'm wondering how much cleavage is acceptable, as I am...er, well endowed.

What say you? :D

Especially since the post starts: Ok, so the Econ Dept honors dinner is tomorrow night.

Oh, and I have nothing useful to add, except: Why not choose a dress that makes 'The Dismal Science' a little less dismal? :D :hi:

2. Two inches or less should suffice!
:P

No, seriously.

Anything more than two inches in a professional setting (fancy school dinner counts as professional) is IMHO too much.

I am saying this as another woman with larger tracts of ... er ... land.

you'll know when you put it on, a couple of inches showing isn't going to offend anyone and as long as you're comfortable that's all that really matters.

I would suggest using some double sided tape to stick the dress to your bra so it doesn't slip out of place. I hate it when that happens!

I think I'll go for it, I'll just pin it inside so it doesn't slip. I'm only going to be sitting at a dinner table for a few hours, so I should be ok.

It's this or a plain black short dress with short sleeves (From HS, ha!), and a sleeveless navy cotton dress (booooring). Other than my wedding dress, that's all I got.

Well, other than my dirty catholic schoolgirl skirt, but that's a lil short for this occasion. :D

of the teetaw, why not proudly show them ? The dress style is appropriate, but it needs some freshening up if possible. Might try finding something similar in the used store, cause the dress does look tired. Have fun with it.

70. I would have been a bit less, er "blunt", but yes, the dress is better suited
for an afternoon out with friends to an outdoor art festival or picnic than to a dinner. I'm a busty veteran of many a formal evening out. If money is an issue, check out what Goodwill or a local consignment shop has to offer (you can find many designer labels there, and stuff that has just been used once or twice). Take a girly-girl friend or a gay friend along with you if dress shopping just isn't your thing. And buy two (one in black); the older you get, the more formal events you'll have to attend!

Good luck, and have fun!

I have a similar-style dress that I wear to work sometimes, but after the first time I wore it, I added a little sleeveless shell underneath, so I'm not constantly adjusting the dress. Now I can relax.

Have a great time!

9. Temeah's really the expert in this area. Maybe you should PM him.
I generally don't like to wear anything that causes me to be at all self-conscious. So, for me, that would be the issue...Would I be thinking about this all night? Wondering if I'm dressed appropriately? If I think I can wear it and feel at ease, I wear it. If I think I'd be self-conscious, concerned about what others think, I don't.

This is why I still preach in a gown, though many now wear street clothes. I don't have to worry about whether I look professional if I'm in a black Geneva gown and stole.

My thoughts. FWIW. I hope you enjoy the dinner, whatever you decide.

If the girls look like they're trying to escape, that's too much.

Other than that, if it feels appropriate to you go ahead and wear it. Bring along a shrug or shawl or something just in case you get there and feel that you've miscalculated.

I'm feeling your pain. My boobs have grown substantially since my tummy tuck (went from a full C to a DDD...have no idea how). I'm 6'1" so my boobs don't look humongous on me but I'm finding that I'm constantly showing more cleavage now than I plan on showing. Some of my favorite wrap dresses I can no longer wear comfortably to work because I'm popping out of them. It makes me really uncomfortable, actually...more than I ever thought it would.

81. Looks good
Face it, you're big enough up there that men are going to notice your bosom regardless.

We can't help it! We're pigs!

Most of us are polite, well-mannered, discreet pigs, though, if given half a chance.

It shows little enough so that men will notice, admire, and move on. No whiplash, no deer-in-headlights looks.

:-)

88. I wish I had that problem
my advice is to keep the girls restrained a bit because this is an academic affair, afterall, and NOT a nightclub.

You want to look professional and sophisticated.
