1. Actually, I *have* been there. (Can't get the 4th pic, dial-up impaired)

That's one huge pic, and all my machine can handle so far is as far as the heads.

But after our first 7 months in the rivers of Vietnam we got 3 weeks R&R in Subic Bay, the Phillippines, then took about 10 days (the ship was a Large Slow Target) to get to Guam for drydock repairs for six weeks.

But I saw nothing outside the base, not even inside the base. All I remember was the barracks and the Enlisted Men's Club. It was there that the news of RFK's death came over the intercom or public address system or whatever it was.

Then it was back to VN to finish up my year.

On Edit: O.K., saw the last pic at the link.

2. I lived on Guam as a kid for almost 4 years.
My father was career navy and we lived on the NCS base. The base was in the northern part of the island near Andersen Airforce base (on your map.)

It was a great place to be a kid -- especially living on base. We used to ride our bikes to the pool almost every day! We had pool passes and didn't need our parents to take us...

I loved living there.

5. I lived there during the Vietnam War, also.
We lived on the NCS Navy base which was very close to the Air Force base.

B-52s from the Air Force base used to fly over our house 24 hours a day.
