Anyone ever have really vivid dreams from taking medication?
I was put on Kadian, some sort of Morphine derivative for a really bad neck and my doctor increased it from 20mg/day to 30. 2 nights ago I took all 3 at a time, (which is how he prescribed it but for some reason I didn't want to take it. Besides I have only been on it a few days again.

The dreams are terrible and I can't wake up. It's sometimes the sleep paralysis and other times I just keep waking up and am so tired I go back to sleep but right into the dreams again.

I didn't take any Kadian yesterday and I woke up with a horrible head and neck ache again so I just took 20mg. I don't want to fall asleep but I am tired, I think from the stress of yesterday.

When I read about this drug it mentioned vivid dreams but said some of the side effects would go away with time.

Anyone else have this?

1. Me! I am a real medication wuss because of it.
When I was a freshman in college, I had my wisdom teeth removed. They gave me that T3 with codeine and I had the most vivid nightmarish dreams ever. After two nights I stopped taking those evil things and, to this day, have never taken a stronger pain reliever than extra strength tylenol.

If you decide to keep taking the medication, I hope you get relief from those nightmares soon. Or your neck pain. Whichever comes first.

8. I hope I get relief too because I don't want to take Lortabs or other drugs
with tylenol on a consistence basis. I found out the excruciation pain I get a lot in the mornings is from a rip in a disk and degenerated and bulging disks. My doctor wants me to see a surgeon but I am scared.

I am doing Oprah's "New Earth" class and the guy who wrote the book talks about our 'pain body" and how it is from holding onto the need to be angry and from all the past hurts and trauma. When he said that not letting go of these things causes a knot in your body it made me think. I have blockages all over.....from my neck to my intestines. I hope if i can do this work it might get at least a little better. He says to look at your need for anger and violence etc and think of it as another being besides yourself because yourself is spirit that doesn't have these problems.

I'm just learning so I probably am explaining it wrong. His name is Eckhart Tolle and his classes are on Youtube now.

I'm just desperate and I'm willing to try anything. And now the nightmares are the icing on the top.

2. Yes
From my antianxiety/antidepressant medications. I even had a dream that I knew was a dream but couldn't wake up. I don't like them much but its a side effect that to me is much less unpleasant than NOT taking them.
My dreams do come and go though.
I actually had one last night..about all tsunami of all things.

3. I get those dreams.
And it's always the same; I have to go somewhere, I'm late and I'm lost. There's alot of anxiety involved with the dreams but they go on for a long time before I wake up.(If I was a guy, Id say it's because I don't want to ask directions).

4. Oh yes! Topomax gives me such surreal, vivid dreams
that I sometimes wonder if I'm awake and high, or asleep and dreaming.

And now, because of the new arthritis med, I'm always tired and I can sleep 16 hours per day if I don't force myself to get out of bed.

5. Yes. Pain meds will do that along with certain anti-depressants.
It's called an ADR, or adverse drug reaction, but it should subside in a couple of days.

They are very unpleasant, though, while you are having them. My sympathies.

i had hallucinations caused by lariam and will not take it again

i asked my doctor to prescribe an alternative drug which doesn't have the side effect, am happy now

i have vivid dreams anyway, but i'm talking hallucinations that seemed to be completely real and convincing, as real as anything that ever happened to me

maybe that's fun for the lsd fan but it's simply not what i'm into

7. Yes, it's happened to me. I thought it wsa the Wellbutrin but I am still on it
and my dreams aren't that vivid anymore, so I think it must have been in combination with another med I am no longer on.

9. I've had vivid dreams, but always enjoyed them
then again, I have an overactive imagination, so my sleep dreams aren't that different from my day dreams.

10. I don't take pharmaceuticals, only the natural supplement 5-HTP
But I have had some weird dreams since I started taking it again. I'm sure it's completely safe, it's just cranking out that serotonin while I sleep, and it's gotta go somewhere.

11. I took Chantix to quit smoking, and was warned I would have vivid dreams.
OMG! I did have vivid dreams! Especially after a week when I was supposed to double the dose. My dreams became very vivid and in Technicolor after that.

After a week when I had to take it twice a day, I was constantly nauseous and couldn't eat. I took it for about 3 or 4 weeks and had to stop cause it made me so sick. I lost about 10 pounds.

12. Oddly, I get ultra vivid dreams when I eat peanut products before bed
peanut butter or peanuts and whatnot. The dreams are especially vivid and surreal but I sort of like it.

15. Oh yeah, percoset
for kidney stone, vivid weird almost violent nightmares. try accupuncture instead for the pain, if you haven't already. some of these drugs are downright scary.

16. I had a bad case of bronchitis as a kid, and took codeine cough syrup
It was stronger than tylenol 3, and I was probably around 8, so I didn't have the same ability as an adult to digest it. Even as an adult, I have little tolerance for precription drugs.

I had weird, scary nightmares, like you describe, and I couldn't wake up. The next day, my mom realized it was a stronger med than she thought and didn't give me as much the next night.
