I'm trying to get into Pink Floyd.
I'm a big fan of 70s rock, but I've never been that big on Pink Floyd. Not because I don't like them, but because I've never really been exposed to them beyond their "classic" songs like Money, etc.

So tonight I sat down and listened to Animals on a very good set of headphones and... Oh, my. Why the fuck didn't anyone tell me about this?!? Good lord, what beautiful music. I am beside myself.

1. Under headphones is the best way to do it
Next try Dark Side. And then Wish You Were Here. Listen to WYWH on a beach if you can. There is something incredible about that music under headphones while watching waves crash. :hi:

5. I've already gone through them.
Our media server at work has a ton of Pink Floyd. I've been working my way through their catalog. Jesus, One of These Days is possibly the best rock instrumental ever. I'm already playing with remixing it. But I still want to beat Gilmour over the head with his own guitar for the travesty he committed on Time. I like WYWH except for Welcome to the Machine, which gave me nightmares as a kid and doesn't fare any better now.

My boss has tickets to see Waters playing The Wall at the O2 arena in London... possibly the last time he'll be doing it. I think I should go.

2. I'm glad you started with Animals - that's their best album, in my opinion!
Woo hoo!

Sorry it took you so long, but I'm happy as a lark that you are so thoroughly enjoying them with your first shot.

Good call on listening with headphones, too - Floyd really needs them.

7. I use studio-quality headphones for listening to music.
Sony MDR V6es. You should try listening to the Flaming Lips' At War With the Mystics on good headphones sometime. Amazing stuff...

8. I've already been through Meddle.
Not a huge fan of it, except for One Of These Days, which is possibly the best rock instrumental ever.

11. 'Animals' was the first Pink Floyd album I heard in its entirety
and I also heard it the first time with headphones, in 1977. It has many interesting furri ani... uh, engineering tricks that you don't really get on room speakers, but at the time I wasn't politically savvy enough to really get the concept. (For one thing, I thought "Whitehouse" was a reference to the Mer'kin gummint.)

It's rather an overlooked album and remains my second PF favorite, after "The Wall."

13. I remember when I was younger
Listening to some Floyd at a laser light show under the influence of some mind altering substances, MAN what an experience!!!

Even today when I hear Floyd I toke on the imaginary joint JUST because you have too.

22. Every Pink Floyd album is great
Edited on Sun May-04-08 08:08 PM by Blue_In_AK
but my favorites are the early ones while Sid Barrett was still around. Piper at the Gates of Dawn was one of my very favorites in my early stoner days.
