Ah, a Sunday night Negroni while I watch the Simpsons and get ready to cook a T-Bone.
I'm gonna try the Alton Brown method of heating the oven to 500F with a cast iron pan it, then throwing the steak (seasoned, and lightly covered in oil) on the superhot pan for 30 seconds a side, then popping it back into the oven for 2.5 minutes a side.

I'm also gonna pop in some asparagus, and make me a little salad.

But mostly, I'm enjoying the Negroni, which is disappearing way too fast, and thus and so I must and shall make at least one more, possibly three or seven.

1. I love Negronis.
A refreshingly astringent, colorful iced buzz in a glass.

The steak sounds good, too.

3. I serve mine straight up, but on the rocks is certinaly acceptable.
Yummy stuff for warm weather.

Especially wonderful on those hot, awful, humid midwestern nights when one would rather slowly slit his wrists with a La-Z-Boy than to continue to live in that weather.

4. I gotta say, this method of cooking a steak is FANTASTIC!
After the steak was done, I pulled it and the asparagus off to rest for a few minutes. Then I sliced up a Vidalia onion and tossed it into the pan (which I had moved from the oven to a burner) and cooked it for a while, and then deglazed the pan with some water and let it reduce. When reduced, I swirled in some butter and poured it over the steak.

Goddamned good, my friends. Damned good.

5. that sounds fantastic
how well does it cook the steak? I can't stand meat could rare, and even medium is a bit of stretch for me.... I like a uniform consistency, but this sounds like it would make for something lovely, either way.

6. It left it pink in the middle, but cooked and warm throughout.
I like a medium rare, and this was more medium, but quite enjoyable. A much more even cooking throughout than just pan-frying it on the stovetop.

It does make a lot of smoke, though, so be prepared for that.

My steak was about an inch thick, by the way, and being a T-Bone, it had a bone in it.

7. shit, couldn't cook that in my apartment
I've set up the smoke alarm (not just a normal smoke alarm, but some sort of mega code-requiring wall mounted unit with it's own switch in the fuse box) twice just cooking bacon on the stove.
