I've been here longer. 2002 I think, because I don't remember any 9/11 discussion and I would've remembered that.

Anyway, I've been just about daily, but I don't post often. I'm glad somebody here does. I get a lot out of DU, and I've gotten familiar with names of a lot of long time posters and I'm glad you guys are here. Over the years there've been a lot of well known posters leave for one reason or another and that's always a drag. I'm always comfortable coming here and it's always good to see the "old reliables" being reliable.

Here's a question. Does anyone know about how many people are on here on average, or some kind of stat like that. I've never heard, but that would be interesting to know. I couldn't even guess if it's in the hundreds or thousands.

Next time you think that you should just post a "roll call: Am I the only one here?". I bet you'd get a lot of replies and it would probably be a good way to get something going to.

I'd love to see any statistics, but I bet for every poster there's got to be at least several lurkers. I know I've spent months at a time lurking silently, but if someone wanted a roll call I'd respond to that. Doesn't take much effort to say "here". Also, I think people get more talkative once they make a response. That's how it is with me, I post in bursts.

I moved from California to Idaho 20 years ago. It wasn't so terrible in the far north and people were friendly except for the racists, polygamists, child molesters, and christian fundamentalists.

Some people would even talk to me if they didn't know I was not born in the area. But I always ended up working for peanuts, and my bosses were usually hard core mormons or fundamentalist christians.

I thought things would be better close to a college town - Lewiston Idaho. It was worse. I started working as a Clinical Social Worker for private agencies. The pay is all by the "billable hour," so, even though I work 8-10 hours a day I get paid for 3-5 because I only get paid for the billable part that the state reimburses the agency. So much for privatization - no benifits - no health insurance - no overtime.

And, because I'm non-christian, pantheist, who is big on science and a "good forbid" liberal democrat, I get black balled everywhere I go. I've had three jobs in three years and they all suck.

My rant is :::: I hate this place. I despise Idaho. I want to go to Oregon or California - any blue state. I would live in a tent on the beach in Big Sir - anything to get out of here. Whatever you do don't sucker for the beautiful country, the rivers, the cheap real estate. It aint worth it - you'll be stuck like me "where the hills have eyes."
