Air show photos Dialup Warning
Here are the best of the photos I took yesterday.

My shutter lags too much to get really good shots.

The C-17

The Thunderbirds

2. Anytime.
I got one of the Thunderbirds with one of the planes flying upside down directly above the other flying right side up, but I have to photoshop the tail of one of the static display planes out of it.

6. I am partial to the bombs bursting one.
:D

But the one I described runs a very close second.

3. Nice shots glorifying the military-industrial complex, W.
Oops! I meant KW.
:hide:

They do a show over SF Bay that's pretty spectacular.

7. It's not the shutter
It's the autofocus. AF on "pocket" cameras is pathetically slow.

Those are good shots, though. Getting good exposures against a background of blue sky isn't easy.

8. Thanks!
From you, I take that as a high compliment.

I really miss my Olympus digital (my husband left it at LAX when we were out here visiting...) I do like my cheap Kodak, but I really want to upgrade.

9. Oh, and it is kind of hard to get good "rule of 3's" shots
when your subject is going like 150 mph.

10. What you do then
is keep it in the left of the frame as you pan with it (if it's going left to right), because as you press the shutter release you'll stop panning — it's a natural reaction — and in that fraction of a second, the subject will move toward the center.

Also, you usually want to give moving subjects room to move in the frame, i.e. more space ahead of them than behind. It better conveys the sense of motion.

11. My dear KitchenWitch!
These are very nice!

Fast moving jets are hard to catch!

I've never tried it, and I am in awe of your pics...

Thanks for posting these!

:woohoo:

12. Damn, I hate air-shows.
Edited on Tue May-06-08 02:54 AM by Herdin_Cats
The one time I went to one, I was like eleven, and sick as a dog. So now when I think of them, I get a bit nauseous.

Plus I had a boyfriend who loved air shows and planes more than life itself. (Fortunately, he never took me to one.) He'd always wanted to be an airforce pilot. He would talk planes and airforce shit at length until I began to have violent thoughts about things like pushing him out of the car just to shut him up. That relationship didn't last long. I don't like having violent thoughts about people.
