What kind of cartoons did you like when you were a kid?

We used to always watch the typical Scooby Doo, Penelope Pitstop, George of the Jungle, Tom & Jerry, etc. Because I've always been a dork, my favorite thing was Schoolhouse Rock (and I own the entire collection on DVD, sad but true). ETA: How could I have forgotten the Flintstones and the Jetsons!?!

I still love the old WB stuff — Bugs, Daffy, Elmer, Porky, Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, Foghorn Leghorn ("BOY! I say BOY! You're doin' it all WRONG, son!"), Sylvester and Tweety, Speedy Gonzales, the two über-polite groundhogs... never really cared for Pepe LePew, though.

Apart from WB, there were Tom Slick, George udda Jungle and Super Chicken.

And I liked the '90s Batman cartoon, which they used to extend the DC universe through the Batman/Superman show and then Justice League and Justice League Unlimited in the '00s.

I never got into Scooby Doo for some reason. It just never really appealed to me.

I have been buying the Looney Tunes DVD collection as it has been released. I like The Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park.

I loved the first season of Ren and Stimpy, I believe the episode "Stimpy's Invention" is simply beautiful. Pinky and the Brain was also brilliant at times - narf zort.

(never cared for Mickey and the gang). I can't stand to watch animation now. Used to work as an assistant animator for Disney, and part of my job included troubleshooting the final animation. Now that my eye has been trained to see every screw up it's kinda killed the fun of watching it. :-(

I work for Warner Bros. as a sound technician/editor.

We re-master the Looney Tunes cartoons for DVD boxed sets. I am responsible for recording the final audio on to the master that will be used to make the DVDs, so I get to see all of the cartoons at work!

59. Oh, wow! I remember The Mighty Heroes :)

I didn't know it was Ralph Bakshi, though. There's a great documentary on Frank Frazetta with Ralph Bakshi in it, since the two of them are good friends.

I was going to mention The Mighty Hercules, too, so it's good to see someone else remembers that :) (I've downloaded some torrents of some of the episodes, and you can also find DVD collections on iOffer.com... Just pay attention to how many episodes are contained because it seems like there may have been around 60 episodes, but I'm not real sure of that.)

And then there were all the Terry Toons (more on The Mighty Heroes in that link) and the toons under Famous Studios including Popeye, Baby Huey, Caspar the Friendly Ghost, Little Audrey, and many others ;)

I do remember seeing some of the early Astro Boy cartoons and have caught one on Adult Swim or Boomerang recently. The animation quality was "rough" but still had good plotlines.

Of course, Warner Brothers, Fleischer Studios, Filmation, Hanna-Barbera (I remember watching Johnny Quest primetime with my dad :D) and any other greats I've forgotten. I didn't watch Speed Racer until mid-70s or so.

My favorite modern cartoon is The Venture Brothers - "Go Team Venture!" :P

If you don't know the early-20th-century comic, "Krazy Kat," you're in for a treat.

Krazy Kat started around 1900, I believe, and ran for several decades. It won high praise from critics for both its language and artistic qualities. There is a musical, and even a novel, based on it.

Krazy Kat is before my time, but I learned about it from my dad's collection. It's surreal and dreamlike and lots of enchanting fun.

I've been a fan of cartoons all my life, from stuff in the late 80's/early 90's - the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Underdog, and classic Looney Tunes episodes (all on Nickelodeon back in the day), Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Batman, Superman, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain - to stuff that's still going strong today - The Simpsons and South Park - not to mention a bunch of cartoons from the past decade or so - Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Spongebob, Futurama, Family Guy, Ben 10. Plus, there's all the stuff on Adult Swim, about 80% of which is pure genius.

I like cartoons. Like, a LOT.

I llove any animation Warner Bros did prior to 1965. IMO Hanna Barbara ruined the craft of cartoons in the 60s when they came on the scene ... no more shadows and cheap background drawings.

As an adult - love the Simpsons. Watch it in reruns at least once a day. Renn and Stimpy are great. Animaniacs tried to be as clever as the earlier Warner Bros stuff and came damn close.

Pinky and the Brain - very funny stuff. (Little did we know that this seemingly innocuous cartoon would serve as a future president's role model.)

TaleSpin (As an aviation buff, I couldn't pass it up, but now it seems a bit... over the top. Come on, a Twin engined amphibious cargo plane pulling off moves that an F6F Hellcat would have a hard time making?)

thus, it was the heyday of mass-produced Hanna Barbera crap, and I preferred the old Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry cartoons. Never underestimate the intelligence of children, even they can tell quality from crap.
