1. Call the bar...

apologize and find out when would be a good time to stop by and pay it. My brother's a bartender. It happens all the time, so nothing to be embarrased about. That's why they usually make you surrender a credit card to open a tab, that way they've got your name and can get your address. Smart bartenders make you show a photo ID to namecheck against the card.

Also, some bars make servers pay for stiffings...and that sucks.

3. the bars here just tack on $15 to the tab, per day..

I had a friend that left it there for two weeks, and had to beg them to reduce it down. It was quite funny.
