Jefferson Starship said they built this city from rock and roll.
In the 1960s, I thought they built it from dope and penicillin.

Of course, maybe they were right -- the number of people who take mind altering substances such as prozac proves "White Rabbit" isn't a total farce.

1. I think they said they built it ON rock and roll.
But when Jefferson Airplane went away, that should have been the end of it.

5. Some early Starship was good stufff...
...the "Dragonfly" and "Red Octopus" albums, and a few tunes on "Spitfire" as well. The first "Jefferson Starship" album, by name, came out in '70 as a side project by Paul Kantner when the Airplane were still a band. It's a concept album that's a bit dated now, but I still enjoy it, and it features great musicians like David Crosby, Nicky Hopkins and Jerry Garcia-- along with Grace Slick.

I'm obviously an Airplane/Starship fan, but I agree that after '76 they didn't put out anything I care for. I was glad I got to see them live in '76 and '78, if only to catch the classic Slick/Kantner/Balin lineup, along with Papa John Creach.

The later albums were just awful, in my opinion. Yet that's probably the era in which the band made its most money. Oh well.

4. No wonder we're experiencing subsidence.
Everyone knows rock and roll compacts over time.
