i am frustrated and a bit worried right now re: health care
Edited on Tue May-06-08 05:19 PM by kagehime
i lost my job two months ago and have been without health insurance since the end of march. since then, i've gotten sick once and am now becoming a bit worried about some other things. i called the clinic i used to visit to see what kind of options they had available and neither does me any good right now. i can either put up a down payment for a visit and pay off the rest ($150-$200) on a payment schedule, something i really can't afford right now due to my finances. my other option is to apply for an indigent care program, but the earliest appointment for that is a month away.

so i called the community clinic and was told that i would have to wait at least three weeks for an appointment, but that doesn't do me any good, either.

the good news is that i was able to get three months worth of my psych meds before my insurance ran out, but i'm now wondering if the meds have something to do with how i've been feeling. a positive with that situation is that the county mental health clinic does walk-ins and i'm hoping they will be able to help.

i know that there are people who are worse off than i, but it's still a scary situation for me. if something does happen, my dad will help me with the money issue, but i hate having to be in that situation.

i'm sorry, i just needed to vent a bit.

1. I've so been there.
You couldn't get COBRA continuation or was it too expensive? Look into state sponsored health care..You might qualify and its not awful I have heard.

3. the monthly cost for cobra would have been more than my monthly unemployment
i've got an appointment next month to apply for the state-sponsored health care program, i'm just really frustrated that it's going to take that long

2. I hate that you (or anyone else for that matter) find yourself in this situation.

And they wonder why people without insurance use the ER in place of primary care. It is because the ERs cannot turn anyone away that does not have insurance.
