What do you think of "crop circles"?
We have had two cases in the Nashville area. Bent grass, perfectly formed and they appeared overnight. Should I buy an extra roll of tinfoil to line my hat with?

It is FABULOUS ART! Never seen anything better myself. Who's sucking on a laser now pal? I am able to suck up to a superior alien life-form if it will save my skin!:bounce:

BTW- I have always imagined aliens as the "War of the Worlds" type rather than the "E.T." type. :scared:

9. What people want is for the Creator
to show up. They want aliens to pop out of the sky and say, yeah, we did that. If I say I did it, people
will say, yeah, right, no you didn't. People want the extraordinary explanation to be true. They want God,
and critters from other planets to be interested in us. What sentient being would travel across light years
of space to leave a crop circle as a sign of ?? knowing we wouldn't get it. If they just appeared, then
that would be something. I have no doubt there is other life in the universe, but I doubt any of it is here
to wink at us.

People have confessed to making these things and many don't believe them.

10. Some are obvious fakes. Others intrigue me...
...and so I do, in fact, WANT to believe that something weird and unknown is going on out there. Not just in terms of crop circles. I'm fully committed to the notion that things happen in this world (on this planet) that can't be explained with rational, known science and traditional concepts of a human/earth-centric universe. I've had no personal experiences, or seen any physical proof, that such is the case. I've never seen a ghost, a UFO, an alien, (or God, for that Matter), or had someone tell me my future in advance. But it makes sense to me on some level that there is a world beyond our essentially primitive understanding of it.
Pure arrogance to think that we've explained it all, already. That's what they thought 100 years ago, 300 years ago, a thousand years ago, etc., etc.

I guess some would say that the short answer to my question is simple: God. Fair enough, but no organized religion-- Jewish/Christian/Muslim, etc.-- makes sense to me in terms of the world I have lived in daily for more than 40 years now. If anything, I am intrigued by certain Jungian/Buddhist notions of connectedness. I also feel strongly that the world is in the sorry state it's in now (and has been since, well forever), due to the myopic arrogance of a concept of God based on humankind. In other words, if God created Man in his image, and Man exists solely on earth, then what are those other hundreds of billions of galaxies for? Night-lights for our amusement? Even the ones we can't see from Earth? Come on.

17. I don't think anything of crop circles.
Edited on Thu May-08-08 04:10 PM by Q3JR4
I know that the first reported crop circles came from southern England in the middle 1970s. I know that by the time the 1990s rolled around there had been hundreds of cases. Nearly all were large scale constructs carried out in the dead of night with (it was claimed) no footprints leading into or out of the site.

I know that whole scientific journals were instituted and devoted to the subject. Were the figures caused by "columnar vortices," or "ring vortices?" What about ball lightning?

As the images became even more complex, I know that meteorological and electrical explanations became more strained. New Age tourists came in droves. All-night vigils were undertaken by enthusiasts equipped with audio recorders and infrared vision scopes. Best-selling books on extraterrestrial crop-distorters were purchased by a breathless and admiring public. True, no saucer was actually seen settling down on the wheat, no geometrical figure was filmed in the course of being generated. But dowsers authenticated their alien origin, and channelers made contact with the entities responsible.

Finally I know that in 1991 Doug Bower and Dave Chorley revealed that they had been making crop circles in England for 15 years using planks, rope, hats and wire as their only tools. Apparently they had been amused by UFO reports and thought it might be fun to spoof the UFO gullibles. At first, they flattened the wheat with a heavy steel bar that in a previous life had been used as a security device on the back door of a shop. Eventually they graduated to the use of planks and rope. Their first efforts took only a few minutes, but gradually they designed and implemented more demanding figures.

After confessing and even showing how they made crop circles for reporters, their part in this whole business dies. Everyone remembers the hoax, but not the hoaxers.

Nowadays ask anyone about crop circles and each will have an explanation for you ranging from aliens to dark matter vortices, but mention the name "Doug Bower" or "Dave Chorley" and even some of the skeptics stare at you blankly.
