Is knee-length too short for a prom dress?
Edited on Thu May-08-08 12:51 PM by otherlander
I found this really nice red dress online, and it was only $40, (made in America, too!) so I ordered it. But it's only knee-length and I was wondering... is that too short for the prom? I was going to wear my hair up in a bun, and wear long silver dangly earrings, black eyeliner, and black sandals with it.

5. Not yet
I'll put one up when I get one of me and my boyfriend together. He's wearing a black suit with a red tie. I'm getting him a red rose and he's getting me a white corsage.
^_^

6. The price sounds right!
I was a high school student from 1978-82. We wore Gunne Sax dresses, which were full-length lacy things. My mom gave one of my sister's dresses to a girl she volunteered with, to wear as a wedding dress.

Our dresses were modest,by today's standards. I'm sure you will look wonderful, but my dad would have never let me go to prom wearing a dress that was knee-length or shorter.

7. Those dresses are "cocktail" dresses
and are perfectly fine after 5:00pm formal wear.

Sounds lovely. :D

9. You know what? It's _your_ prom. Do whatever you want. I myself wore

a 1950s taffeta gown that belonged to my grandmother, and the next year I wore a gunne sax. So I did the Marilyn Monroe thing Jr year and Anne of Green Gables the Sr. :D

They looked vaguely like this:
&aoe=1&w=320
(Mine was more bronzy with an overskirt/train in the back, though, and the underlining was peach)

and this:

(But it was full length and poofier, with ruffles and lace. Much dressier)

10. It's ridiculous to buy these long prom dresses knowing they'll be worn only once
Sounds like you bought a lovely dress that could be worn again for many occasions. Go for it!

11. Depends on the prom....
Edited on Thu May-08-08 01:28 PM by SacredCow
If it's classified as a formal, black-tie event, then it isn't appropriate- floor-length is the requirement.

But it seems that many proms are going the way of semi-formal, in which case it would be fine.

Edited for pronoun trouble.

12. in my opinion you will get a million chances to wear a short dress and very few
to wear a long elaborate fancy dress.

so unless you dont like long dresses, i would go with a long one
