Crazy Goose Attacks Boater And Dog

http://www.neenja.com/evideos/68/crazy_goose_attacks_boater_and_dog

...and to the boater's credit (and for my fellow animal lovers out there), the boater makes no attempt to hurt the goose, just defend himself and his dog against it.

:toast:

"NO GEESE WERE HARMED DURING THE FILMING OF THIS EPISODE."

1. There's gotta be some logical explanation for that.
Maybe the boat was between the goose and a nest on shore?

2. Geese can be pretty damn vicious...
I shit you not. We had some on our farm for a brief period, and they were mega-aggressive.

6. Looked about like some of my dust-ups with our geese...
they're persistent, if nothing else.

For the record, we did have some pure white geese that were exceedingly gentle and calm. But those grey ones? Not so much. They make damn good vodka, though! :)

5. Geese are territorial and known to be mean...
the Romans used to keep geese and swans as guard animals for this reason. They can be friendly and even sweet to people they know, but I have pity on you if you approach a goose as a stranger, particularly those that haven't had a lot of contact with humans. Both large fowl are very capable of killing a human. Respect nature.

Turkeys are pretty brutal too. We have wild turkeys here in parts of CT, I've seen them attack cars and get the better of it.

7. that guy showed a LOT of restraint
same with the dog for that matter. He easily could've let adrenaline get the best of him and snap the goose's neck, slam it against the boat, whatever. I'm even more suprised the dog doesn't react and attack.

8. My guess is the dog was in the water by her nest
Geese are horribly aggressive especially when eggs are on the ground.

10. Guard geese
we have them. 9 white 3 grey. They are sweet as pie to us. Anyone else, not so much. lol
We live back in the bush. The geese will take on anything. If some hunter is on your property, the geese show you right where they are. We also have two guard dogs. If someone would happen to get by the geese, the guard dogs would show them where all the good stuff is. So far this has not happened.Love my geese. Two are sitting on eggs right now. Piety the fool that bothers them. The whole flock protects those gals and precious eggs.We would never even consider eating our guard geese or their eggs. They also protect the deer that has her fawn in our field every year too. That touches my heart.Geese are just wonderful!

11. yeah -- i had a big ol mean looking dog --
if a burglar wanted something -- the dog would help if he'd take him around the block in his car so he could hang his head out and bark at shit.

12. LOL Mean old looking dogs
loving strangers. Yup,got one like that too. The dog in the video is not stupid. Those wings on geese are clubs. Their bite hurts like heck. They nab you and twist. Not much harm from a bite. It is the wing beating that does the harm. I know this because about ten years ago, I tried to break up two ganders fighting. Got clipped in the head and it knocked me out.My face looked like someone hit me with a ball bat.Ganders fighting for control of flock is awful. They sometimes kill the weaker gander. The head gander is challenged every spring by the younger ganders.
