It's been a rough year- I was diagnosed with leukemia the day after Mother's Day last year. Total shock because I've been healthy, tried to take good care of myself, etc. They told me I'd die in a couple of months if I didn't rush into treatment. Did some intensive chemo, then went for a stem cell transplant in December, replacing my blood cells with those of a healthy donor-- and, knock wood, it seems to be working! My body's pretty beat up from all the intensive treatment, but I'm getting better little by little.

Grateful to be alive!!!

10. Yep, I have 2 teenagers

It's hard to tell, but I'm sure they must have been very worried about me- at times I was quite frail and weak, and I was hospitalized 6-7 times for the treatments. I know my husband was a wreck, though it didn't always show.

In some ways this kind of thing is harder on the family. As the sick one I felt, rightly or not, that I had some modicum of control over the disease--mind over matter- whereas the people who love you feel helpless.
