On tap at Tavernertavern: Barley John's The Dark Knight

Yeah, someone shipped me a growler from Minnesota. It held up PERFECTLY.

Damn, this is more like a port than a beer. They take their Porter, double the ingredients and then double ferment it in old Whiskey Barrels. This time they used Pappy Van Winkle Barrels. Nose is all bourbon. Yum. At 13%, this stuff is a sip-and-go kinda brew.

1. you lucky bastard
I've never even heard of this brewery, but your description makes me think that this brew could be beer heaven for me. I'm crazy for beers aged in bourbon casks, and I love dark porters. Sweet lord, I want that shit NOW.

2. Make the sojourn to Minnesota and pick up a growler!

If you love the taste of Bourbon, drink the Dark Knight rather than the Dark Knight Returns. The difference is they reuse the barrels for returns, and the bourbon flavor isn't so prominent.

ON EDIT: wow - you're in the UK. I guess that does change things a little.

3. I'll be back in the US this summer
I doubt that I'll get to MN though. I will get to go to Lexington and have some of the Lexington Brewery's great beers. There are lots of great beers in the part of England where I live, but the variety is more of a variety within a few distinct styles of beer, not much in the way of the American breweries inventiveness, which I miss.

DFH is one of America's greatest breweries!

You might like one of theirs called "Palo Santo." It's a strong dark ale aged in palo santo marron casks. Really good!
