I *hate* moving!
So, my friend and I moved on rather short notice. Mostly because the landlord of this place is *impossible*. I was organizing the apartment stuff, dealing with credit checks and leases and whatnot. We looked at this place at the end of March, maybe the very beginning of April. I totally fell in love with it. Rach, well, she likes it a lot, maybe not as much as me, but enough. It's a perfect 2 bedroom, top floor of a house, the biggest claw foot tub I've *ever* seen, flat rate utilities included in rent, separate toilet room brit style (good for room mates), tiny living room off her bedroom, but study/computer room off mine. Bedrooms are HUGE and a good size kitchen. My 2nd favorite neighbourhood to live in, and a 5 min walk or so from my #1 fave.

Anyway. Long story short, filled out the application. A few days later I get a call from landlord (LL) who says that there wasn't a credit/reference sheet attached. So he asks me for references. I give them to him. We chat pleasantly. He says nothing about filling out the form, just asks for the references. At least a week goes by, and I call him back. He talks about us coming by the place to leave a damage deposit and sign some papers. I say "So, this means we got the apartment?", he says no, not till he gets the credit forms. Which he didn't tell me he needed or provide for me in any way. So, he emails them to me. I fill them out and email them back right away. Again, at least a week goes by and I call him. Turns out, Rachel needs to fill one out too. Not that he bothered to tell me that at all (since I was dealing with leases and stuff I guess it just didn't occur to me). So, I get her to fill it out and fax it to his number. A few days go by, we hear nothing. I call. He says he didn't get her fax. Like, wouldn't want to bother FOLLOWING UP WITH ME or anything. Sheesh. So I get her to fax it again. EXACT same deal. So, finally I pick it up from her, bring it home and scan it, then email it to him and DEMAND :P that he let me know that he got it and can read it and everything is good. He never checked a single one of either of our references.

We signed the lease on like, April 25th. Move in date: May 1st. But, I loved the place enough to put up with the bullshit. There is a resident caretaker so I think contact with LL should be minimal anyway. He's a *VERY* nice guy, just... whatever.

Fortunately, we had a lot of help moving. I still can basically do like nothing, so that was great. It's also great that Rach has basically nothing because I have too much of everything, so it sort of balances out. Anyway, we get moved in, but no internet at first because of a totally separate and long winded confusing debacle with that.

We both have cell phones, so we decided not to get a land line for a while, see if we feel like we need one later. I *DISTINCTLY* remember packing my cell charger in the top of a box so it would be the first thing I grabbed when I opened the box. Couldn't tell you WHICH box, but it doesn't really matter because I've ripped apart everything I own three times, and Rach has done it 2 times, no charger. So I have no phone. Which is a major problem. I'm in a situation where I have in fact fallen and not been able to get up, or been stuck in the bath tub, etc. I have to cab anywhere I need to go. No phone = serious problem.

They set up the internet the other day. Yipee. Except they made a mistake. They set it up as light speed. And that doesn't mean the speed of light. Light as in less than normal. It seriously seemed worse than a 56k modem. Maybe not, maybe I'm just so spoiled that I can't remember what it's like, but it was AWFUL. I had to work from home and I could get basically NOTHING done. I did a format and reinstall on my computer, it took me a day and a half just to update windows. And, for some strange reason, the internet is in Rach's husbands name (who she's separated from), so it wasn't like we could just pick up the phone and get it fixed.

That's finally fixed thank Christ, but I could do very little for that time, because it was so painfully slow. However, it was my birthday on Saturday, and I got a 22" wide screen LCD monitor, so that kind of made my other computer issues be forgotten for a time.

And, I found a spare battery for the LG Chocolate for $10, and a universal battery charger for $6, I also picked up a data cable super super cheap, and some rechargeable batteries. FedEx shipping was actually under $20, so I was pretty thrilled about that. I ordered Friday, and the tracking says it's on a truck to be delivered today. So I should have a phone. Problem solved.

And, almost everything is finally unpacked. The internet is working right today. But it was stressful and messy and I just *HATE HATE HATE* moving. When it was all done I practically forced Rach to make a blood pact saying we're never leaving this place ever for any reason.

That is my very long winded story. It isn't all that interesting. But it's mine. And I felt like telling it so there. :P

1. Damn, that's a lot to go through to move...
at least you have a place of your own now, and it sounds really nice. Sucks to go through that much hassle and stress though.

I can't believe I missed your birthday! I didn't know what day it was this month, I'm sorry.

I hope your aren't feeling as stressed today.

3. oh that's a shame
All that crap. But if the place is worth it then so is the bother, right? In a few months, you'll be happy in your beautiful place and all this will be a memory. :)

4. I just rented my townhouse.
I've been slowly moving stuff from the place to where my wife and I now live. Ten days ago, my sister calls me and says her maid of honor and two sons are being forced out of their home by the 15th (the husband and father ruined their credit and walked out on them a few months back). Having a place available for them, I nearly singlehandedly moved stuff into storage and saw to it that all major repairs were made. Unfortunately, I wrecked my health in the process. Dehydration occurred, which greatly contributed to a gout attack, plus I was rushed to the emergency room last Tuesday night to pass a kidney stone.

Yeah, I hate moving, too.

I have to move too and I am dreading it, for all the reasons you stated and then some.

But I'm glad you're finally settling in to your new place! :D

Moving just sucks! Period but you're new place sounds charming!

Congratulations! :toast: You did it!!
