Let's get Sirius--question about Satellite radio!
We just traded cars (we finally retired the '93 Escort Wagon) and got a used car. Much to our amazement, it has functional Sirius. I'm loving it, but now I'm wondering about how this all works. I checked the website and it looks like a subscription thing.

Am I driving around with some other guy's subscription in my car? Is this like cable that you tell them when you move and they turn it off when they get to it or is this one of those things where once a car is enabled it just keeps on working?

Help! Need advice here because I am wanting to keep this going!

1. It's subscription
I dunno what Sirius charges, but I pay $14.95 per month for XM.

2. You'll need to activate it.
I believe it's $13.95 a month- and worth every penny. Tons of music channels, and NFL and Howard Stern if that is your sort of thing.

5. Eww! No, Howard is not my cup of tea.
Different strokes, I guess. I'm really thrilled with the Blues and Soul stations and Kevsand is loving that Grateful Dead channel. Much to my horror, Material Girl discovered Radio Disney is on there and now we have to discuss who gets to pick what we listen to. I'm only good for a short time of the Naked Brother Band and Hannah Montana so this could be a problem...

:puke:

3. The person who sold it to you probably forgot to cancel or switch
the subscription. I have XM and we pay a year in advance. I would contact Sirius and set up an account.

4. He may have pre-paid for a year, in which case ..... USE IT!
You can subscribe after his subscription runs out. Until then, no worries.

We had XM early, paid three years in advance, and got a price of $9.95 a month. That price is history.

I love it, quite honestly.

9. He will probably transfer it to a new car, once he remembers.
That price is still available in certain markets.

6. It's well worth it
You get about a 10% discount if you pay it in advance for a year. The talk radio and sports are amazing, although I've noticed the rock stations rotate a pretty small play list. I also like the blues and classical pops station.

7. Love satellite radio!
Some vehicles come equipped with satellite radio now, so it probably isn’t somebody else’s. However, you will need to keep up the subscription.

8. My free XM is still working
Traded for a newer used car a few months ago. The salesman told me that the XM radio had some time already prepaid on it but he was not sure how much. Several months later its still working.

10. Use it until someone cancels it.
It was probably paid for a year in advance and hasnt been turned off yet.

I listen to channel 30 a lot, but they do seem to have a somewhat small playlist.

11. I've been very happy with it
it is subscription based and the subscriptions are linked to each radio (each radio has a unique ID) so as others have mentioned if the previous owner didn't cancel/switch that radio's subscription it'll work until it runs out - unless he has automatic renewal on his account on a still valid credit card or bank account then it'll keep working - I'll let you decide the ethics of that one :)

But it is worth the money IMHO...lots of good stuff.

12. I know you are talking about cars
but I'm thinking of getting a portable for work.
Anyone have an idea of what a good price would be and where to go?
