Strange phone call from a "work from home" company
Today I got an unsolicited phone call from a company called Axis Global Telecommuting Services. Apparently they saw my resume on my state's joblink website and said they thought I qualified to work for them. The only thing is they wanted $35 for a "background check." I told the woman that I didn't have the money for their background check, and asked that it be taken out of the first paycheck if I was so "qualified." She hemmed and hawed and said a supervisor would have to get back to me on that.
I did a little research later and found out that they have a reputation for scamming and harassing people. What I find funny is that these companies used to just send spam emails. Now they're CALLING people? :wtf: Must really be desperate...

1. This is one of those things the state Attorney General should be working on.
That is the epitome of fraud.

2. I'm going to my local workforce center tomorrow for something else
I'll talk to them about what happened. But yeah, it's pretty creepy that they called me.

3. Companies should not be able to use a state employment database to prey on people.
Crush 'em.

4. It's a scam. No serious employer asks you to pay for a "background check".
Tell them to fuck off if they call you again.
