This ought to be a good topic...
I'm going to be 50 this year.

I used to be in really good health...still am I guess relatively speaking...I mean, things could be worse.

However, every Goddamn year that goes by, something else seems to fall apart health wise. A lot of it is caused by diabetes...that shit causes a million things to go wrong with you.

So my question is...as you find yourself aging...do you worry about your health and what shape you will be in 5 or 10 years from now?

Also, my lifestyle could be better...but I have a philosophy...I don't want to be the guy who spends all of his life not drinking ever, ALWAYS eating the right foods, never taking any risks or having any fun etc...and then walk out of his front door when he is 55 and get hit by a fucking bus.

Am I getting my point across here? I guess I am just having trouble accepting the fact that I am getting older....

1. Are you Insulin dependent, or NIDDM?
I swear, my dad, who was had NIDDM, did SO much better on the first generation of oral drugs than the last. Orinase kept his sugar well under control. Avandia, Glucophage, etc., not so much.

6. Currently insulin dependent...
But they are still keeping me on orals because my endocrinologist insists that I may have the possibility of coming off insulin someday.

The guy is one of the best endo's on the east coast...but he's like a freaking mad scientist.

Lantis injections
Novolog injections
Byetta injections
Actos oral
Metformin oral

He also has a GYM in his office that I work out at!

I asked him to just take me off the orals, and he said....NO!

I also am on meds for major depression, which as you know, complicates the heck out of all of this. :hi:

3. I am 37.
I used to care a lot. Now? Not so much. Only to keep myself together long enough to get my son to adulthood. It's already going to be too long of a life.

10. Day at a time...
I believe that the passage of time does not eliminate grief, but it does change it...it mellows it and provides an understanding of why things happen as they do.

This is from my experience only...but I think time changes everything. For the better? I like to hope so anyway....

I lost 60 lbs
I do eat better
I quit smoking
I exercise

13. You know, I just thought of something.
Have you heard of Arnica? It is great for bruises, aching muscles, and stiff joints. It is naturopathic and you can buy it at most health stores, good ones, not the chains. Or at large markets that carry homeopathic or herbal medicine. Get the gel and just apply it externally on the hurts, not over broken skin.

I have never spoken to anyone for whom it didn’t work, some people consider it a gift/godsend.
