7. I know... Here is text from a craigslist ad for a CSR
"Be a part of a growing company, an excellent team, and an exciting and dynamic industry!

Founded in 1996, <company name deleted> designs stylish plus-size women's apparel in sizes 10-32. The <company name deleted> collection of dresses and separates can be found in over 100 specialty boutiques and online. <company name deleted> is known for its stylish and contemporary line of plus-size women's clothing. Whether you're looking for a stylish plus size dress for a special occasion, or a great pair of plus size jeans, you can find them at <company name deleted>."

Depending upon who makes it, I range between a 12 and a 16. Yes, I could stand to lose about 15-20 pounds, but I am over 6 feet tall, and quite frankly, I would look downright anorexic as a size 8.

:banghead:

38. Since it's a plus size store,
it's possible they're using a different 'size chart' than the typical 0 to 18 or 20. I've been in some plus size stores where a 12 is not a typical size 12 - much larger. In that scenario, I can see a 'size 10' being a plus size. Using a standard size chart, I don't know of anyone who considers a size 10 to be large.

8. I don't know about 6-8
The sizes have changed, but take a look at the Marilyn Nudes (I have, believe me, I have) and look at those hips. At least a size 9 in todays sizes.

6. You are in Southern California now....
My ex told me I was fat when I weighed 97 lbs., when I lived there!! I laugh about it now...but I was crazy to starve my body like I did. Now I pay the price, too. :-(

9. Yah
But what kills me is that fully 1/3 to 1/2 of the people I encounter here are varying degrees of overweight. So that image that everyone has of all southern Californians are blonde, blue eyed and have perfect bodies is completely wrong.

It was 20 years ago, now. Or, maybe it was the group I was around.... I lived with college students first, then near LAX (there were a lot of models and "actresses" in my apartment complex there). Seemed like, at that time, everyone was thinner (and wealthier) than I! lol

14. I'm chubby in a ten; it's COMPLETELY dependent on individual body type.
Edited on Tue May-13-08 01:43 PM by LaraMN
I'm about a 4/6 right now, and I don't think I look anorexic, I've just a got a really small body frame for a tall person. I've never heard anything smaller than size 14 being construed as "plus", though. It's just a stupid label, really, but I know it's hard to see past that sort of thing, sometimes.

It's possible to be healthy and bigger than that.

In high school I wore 9s and 11s and weighed 125.

Why is the society trying to make women feel bad about looking like women and trying to make them look like 12 year old boys? Sod that for a game of soldiers!

I might be gay but I loves me my women - but I want them to look like women!

26. Thank you, Khash
When a women looks at a picture of herself and the first thing she always sees is what she needs to "fix", something is wrong. When a woman who's a size 4-6 still looks at her hips and sees how fat she is, something is wrong. When all of our female "role models" for appearance are airbrushed to beyond the best that anyone can naturally be, something is wrong.

25. Oh, for the love of...
When does it stop? Do they not realize that some of us cannot fit into non plus size clothes? The smallest I can ever wear is a 14. Any smaller and my hips are too wide. I admit, I'm overweight by 25-35 pounds, but sheesh, I don't like being told I'm "plus size" when I can't really help it. I'm quite comfortable at 14-16, thanks.

28. Why do they have to call it "plus sized" in the first place?
Men's clothing is labeled "big and tall" - which sounds very "manly". Women's clothes are labeled "plus size" - or fat.

30. Feel good
14-16 ain't fat. It's quite normal. Just feel comfortable in your own body - it's the only one you've got and your stuck with it :)

If you really do need to lose weight for health reasons, fine. But quit listening to the media trying to convince you if you're not a size 6 you must be ugly or fat. It's sick. It mostly effects women, and it's evil.

Khash gives advice (Oh No!): whenever you look in the mirror tell yourself how beautiful you are and how any man should be so lucky to be with you.Sounds silly but it works.

Khash.

Have the "fashion" people any idea how emaciated I would look if I wore a size 4. They would be committing me to the nearest eating disorders clinic as fast as you can say french fries.

34. Here is the text of the email I sent them
"A clue for you. Size 10 is not plus sized. I am over six feet tall and female and I would be locked up in an anorexia clinic if I wore a size 10.

To say that I am offended by calling a size 10 "plus sized" is seriously understating it. I gladly chose NOT to follow fashion trends in part because of the thinking that if you are not a size zero, you are a fat farking slob. Women of ALL sizes are beautiful. Calling a fashion line "plus sized" diminishes from the beauty and just serves to make ~85% of us feel ugly."

Definitely will not change anything but I got it off my more than ample "plus sized" chest.

by having Chinese people sew stuff in a limited number of sizes for 20 cents per hour and then telling the Women of Mer'ka, "Hey, you've gotta fit into 0 through 8. You don't want people to think you're fat, do you?"
