The management for a popular restaurant in Silverton, Ore., announced Thursday that young children would no longer be allowed into the establishment.

The manager at the Red Thai restaurant on Oak Street said children under the age of 6 aren't welcome in the eatery.

The Red Thai manager, Craig Gereau, said children disrupt people who are trying to enjoy a quiet dinner.

I'm going to to get some popcorn....

1. As a parent of a 6 year old and a 17 year old, I say more power to the proprietor

Granted, I never let my daughter, or my son for that matter, get disruptive at restaurants or other public places. At the first squawk, we were sitting in the car until the child was able to calm him/herself down.

But I will have some of that popcorn too.

I actually appreciate a business that has the guts to display the "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." sign. And no, the customer is NOT always right.

I guess he has a reason for doing this
maybe he was losing more customers that didn't have kids

If my kids acted up me and my husband took turns taking them outside
or to the car till they calmed down....

They should be banned from airplanes though. That way I could get some sleep!!

19. I live in a very rural area

I cook at a restaraunt on Sundays. Most of the parents who come in with young children have zero control over them. They even get up from the table and play chase, yelling and screaming.

I dont remember that type of behavior from children when I lived in the city (which wasnt that long ago). I know mine would never have acted that way in a public place!!

Maybe it is just the country living, because they dont get out that much.

seriously, i know that it's difficult to 'control' a baby or a toddler and that parents deserve to be able to go out, but i don't see a problem with this. it's just one restaurant.

I miss it a lot.

My friends and I had a restaurant in Honolulu that we loved to go to - little hole in the wall kind of place, but elegant and well done, and we'd just ask the chef to make us a meal for 8 or however many we had, with very few parameters - we had vegetarians in the group, so we had to make sure we had a couple vegetarian dishes, and we'd usually ask for one really spicy one. But otherwise, it was chef's choice. Fun as hell!

And the sticky rice there was really, really sticky. Wonderful!!

14. If they have a full bar, I'm moving to Silverton, OR.

I'll have my new job just cut my paychecks to Red Thai. Thai food, no children. I'd go there just because they banned kids...I'm aiming to encourage the practice, and see it catch on elsewhere.

Obligatory "If you want to go out to dinner with your kids, go to McDonalds" comment...except that I don't think children should grow-up eating fast food or sweetened carbonated beverages...or meat. It's just not healthy. So...if you want to go out to dinner with your kids, stop at the grocery to buy some pre-packaged healthy food and go to the park. It's like McDonalds, but not evil.

and no, it's not impossible.

When I was a kid, we traveled all over the country during the summer, eating at restaurants along the way.

I don't know what would have happened if we had gotten up and run around the tables and screamed during a meal. In fact, we started traveling like this when we were all between the ages of 8 and 3, and I can't remember it ever happening.

Of course, we were required to behave at meals at home, too, so it wasn't too much of a stretch to behave in a restaurant.

...but I would never choose to frequent a restaurant with such a rule. What next? A rule that won't allow people over 65? Those overweight? Those who are members of a racial minority group?

25. Well, those kind of rules would be stupid.

Because presumably the elderly, overweight, and random people belonging to a racial minority group don't typically disturb other diners by screaming, throwing food, or running around between the tables while others are eating.

But if for some reason any of those group members did typically behave like that in restaurants, then I would support the restaurant's right to kick them out too.

I have no problem with this. Heck, ban them until they are 18. Adults need adult space sometimes and I don't see any reason why the owner of this restaurant shouldn't provide it. Can I have some of the popcorn please?
