¿Necesitamos un foro para español, sí?
Es ridículo que no hay un foro para (o en) español. Necesitamos un foro en español porque hay muchos personas hispanas en este país y los más son democráticos. ¿Qué piensas?

41. If you really want one, you can put forward a suggestion for a group to Skinner
As noted in the Group Francophone, you'll need 'honorary moderators' who are fluent enough to be able to understand all the posts completely. As far as I know, the French group has gone OK - but posts there aren't very frequent.

12. Hay un "Latino/Hispanic" grupo.
How would a Spanish forum add to that (sorry, my Spanish isn't all that good and I don't feel like struggling with my dictionary right now).

Mind you, I'd enjoy it cause it would help me improve my Spanish.

22. Span-go? Wakarimasu! Do-zo!

And that's Hauptsturmbahnführer to you, meine Güte noch Mal,
sei doch vorsichtiger! (Boku-wa doitsu-go wakarimasu)

Men, när det finns någon som vill börja nå'nting på svenska, då
är jag med i alla fall!

и когда начнём по-русски, но конечо со мной!! ЛОЛ

36. Swedish and Russian, actually
Hey, I never even started with Dutch or Catalan (I speak both).

But don't forget, not only is it part of my job to be able to communicate
with people from these countries, but I spend most of my time there, too,
so I'd have to be some kind of arrogant idiot not to learn the languages
of the countries I hang out in. It's not a question of being impressive,
but of being sensible, which I try to be, and on rare occasions even succeed :-)
(despite convincing evidence to the contrary...)

40. Makes a lot of sense to me!
We're moving to Munich later this year, at which point I know that my German will get better, and I'm hoping to work on Spanish "officially." I can read a decent amount (like the replies in this thread up to yours, I muddled through), but I don't have any expressive Spanish.

I think it's awesome that you've recognized the value, and put the effort into learning, in all of those languages! :bounce:

42. I went to school in Spain for a while, and it was my major in college
So, I'd be in bad shape if I couldn't read and write that.

As for the rest of them, like I said, I travel a LOT for my work,
and it just says a LOT to the locals, even if their English is
flawless, that there are Americans out there who care enough
to not just automatically expect that all the world speaks fluent
English.

You'll pick up German quickly if you make an effort to have German
friends and speak it to them. You'll even pick up some Bayerisch,
and earn some smiles along the way among the locals. Smaller ethnic
groups consider it a special gesture for a foreigner to learn their
lingustic quirks, and it earns America friends like you wouldn't believe.
My wife and I speak German to each other, so I'm almost as much at home
in German as I am in Spanish or Swedish (been with her for 34 years--it
helps!). Her relatives stare in amazement when they leave us after a visit
and I say "kom gaut na huus!" (That's Plattdeutsch, as she is from the far
northwest) which is "Pladdütsch" for "Kommt gut nach Hause!"

44. Yup, German I'm good with
Not fantastic, but good - got my undergrad degree in German Studies, and spent 9 months living in Stuttgart back in 2001-2002. I know that it will come back quickly, once we're living there.

I actually found it challenging to find German who would speak German with me - as soon as they heard that I wasn't native, it's into English we go, since their English is better than my German and they want to practice! I think I'm going to have to make it a point to say hey, I want to practice, too! :)
