2. Crazy Love Van the Man
I can hear her heart beat for a thousand miles
And the heavens open every time she smiles
And when I come to her thats where I belong
Yet Im running to her like a rivers song

Chorus:
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love

Shes got a fine sense of humor when Im feeling low down
And when I come to her when the sun goes down
Take away my trouble, take away my grief
Take away my heartache, in the night like a thief

Chorus:
Yes I need her in the daytime
Yes I need her in the night
Yes I want to throw my arms around her
Kiss her hug her kiss her hug her tight

And when Im returning from so far away
She gives me some sweet lovin brighten up my day
Yes it makes me righteous, yes it makes me feel whole
Yes it makes me mellow down in to my soul

6. Dido, "Thank You"
My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why
I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be grey,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad,
it's not so bad

I drank too much last night, got bills to pay,
my head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there'll be hell today,
I'm late for work again
And even if I'm there, they'll all imply
that I might not last the day
And then you call me and it's not so bad,
it's not so bad and

I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life

Push the door, I'm home at last
and I'm soaking through and through
Then you hand me a towel
and all I see is you
And even if my house falls down,
I wouldn't have a clue
Because you're near me and

I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life

The Sinatra song is beyond beautiful- I was just about to post it when I saw yours. Tony Bennett does a lovely version as well.

Have you been watching the Sinatra series on TCM? The live concerts have been spectacular. Next Sunday night he'll be on with Ella Fitzgerald and Jobim-- should be great.

"At Last" was one of our wedding songs- the Lou Rawls version.

18. Cowboy Junkies - Misguided Angel
Edited on Wed May-14-08 02:05 PM by RainDog
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEp5Pl25i_o

I said mama, he's crazy and he scares me
But I want him by my side
Though he's wild and he's bad
And sometimes just plain mad
I need him to keep me satisfied

I said papa, don't cry cause its alright
And I see you in some of his ways
Though he might not give me the life that you wanted
Ill love him the rest of my days

Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a lucifer, black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you till I'm dead

I said brother, you speak to me of passion
You said never to settle for nothing less
Well, it's in the way he walks,
It's in the way he talks
His smile, his anger and his kisses

I said sister, don't you understand?
He's all I ever wanted in a man
I'm tired of sittin' around the t.v. every night
Hoping I'm finding a mr. right

Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a lucifer
Black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you till I'm dead

He says baby, don't listen to what they say
There comes a time when you have to break away
He says baby there are things we all cling to all our life
Its time to let them go and become my wife

Misguided angel hangin' over me
Heart like a gabriel, pure and white as ivory
Soul like a lucifer
Black and cold like a piece of lead
Misguided angel, love you till I'm dead

The words are very sweet, frickin touching in her voice :headbang:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yuEzkuAu8ik
Black is the color of my true love's hair
His face so soft and wondrous fair
The purest eyes
And the strongest hands
I love the ground on where he stands
I love the ground on where he stands

Black is the color of my true loves hair
Of my true love's hair
Of my true love's hair

Oh I love my lover
And well he knows
Yes, I love the ground on where he goes
And still I hope
That the time will come
When he and I will be as one
When he and I will be as one

So black is the color of my true love's hair
Of my true love's hair
Of my true love's hair

24. Quite a few love songs out there
but one of my personal favorites is this one:

We have all, the time in the world
Louis Armstrong

We have all, the time in the world
Time enough for life
To unfold
All the precious things
Love has in store

We have all the love in the world
If that's all we have
You will find
We need nothing more

Every step of the way
Will find us
With the cares of the world
Far behind us

We have all the time in the world
Just for love
Nothing more
Nothing less
Only love

Every step of the way
Will find us
With the cares of the world
Far behind us
Yes

We have all the time in the world
Just for love
Nothing more
Nothing less
Only love

Only love

and a second, if I may:

I Like Dreaming'
Kenny Nolan

I like dreamin'
Cause dreamin' can make you mine
I like dreamin'
Closing my eyes and feeling fine
When the lights go down
I'm holding you so tight
Got you in my arms
And it's paradise 'til the morning light

I see us on the shore beneath the bright sunshine
We've walked along St Thomas beach a million times
Hand in hand, two barefoot lovers kissin' in the sand
Side by side, the tide rolls in
I'm touching you, you're touching me
If only it could be

I like dreamin'
Cause dreamin' can make you mine
I like dreamin'
Closing my eyes and feeling fine
When the lights go down
I'm holding you so tight
Got you in my arms
And it's paradise 'til the morning light

Through each dream how our love has grown
I see us with our children and our happy home
Little smiles, so warm and tender looking up at us
Blessed by love, the world we share
Until I wake and reach for you
And you're just not there

I like dreamin'
'Cause dreaming can make you mine
I like holding you close and touching your skin
Even if it's in my mind
Sweet dream baby, I love you
Oooh, my sweet dream baby
Don't keep me waitin' all my life
I need you
Sweet dream baby, I love you
Oooh, sweet dream baby
You in my dreams every night

Yes, there is a vast difference in them, but they are both great in their own way.

26. Old Fashioned Love Song by Three Dog Night.
It doesn't get much better, IMO.

Old-Fashioned Love Song

Just an old-fashioned love song playin' on the radio
And wrapped around the music is the sound
Of someone promising they'll never go
You swear you've heard it before
As it slowly rambles on and on
No need in bringin' `em back,
`Cause they're never really gone

Just an old-fashioned love song
One I'm sure they wrote for you and me
Just an old-fashioned love song
Comin' down in 3-part harmony

To weave our dreams upon and listen to each evening
When the lights are low
To underscore our love affair
With tenderness and feeling that we've come to know
You swear you've heard it before
As it slowly rambles on and on and
No need in bringin' `em back,
`Cause they're never really gone

Just an old-fashioned love song
Comin' down in 3-part harmony
Just an old-fashioned love song
One I'm sure they wrote for you and me
Just an old-fashioned love song
Comin' down in 3-part harmony
Just an old-fashioned love song
One I'm sure they wrote for you and me

30. That's How Strong My Love Is
original O.V. Wright version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_B3SJbqAlc

Otis Redding version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI0TMTCGIjI

That's How Strong My Love Is

If I was the sun way up there
I'd go with love most everywhere
I'll be the moon when the sun goes down
Just to let you know that I'm still around

That's how strong my love is, oh
That's how strong my love is,
That's how strong my love is, baby, baby,
That's how strong my love is.

I'll be the weeping willow drowning in my tears
You can go swimming when you're here
I'll be the rainbow when the sun is gone
Wrap you in my colors and keep you warm

That's how strong my love is, darling,
That's how strong my love is, baby,
That's how strong my love is, oooh,
That's how strong my love is.

I'll be the ocean so deep and wide
I'll get out the tears whenever you cry,
I'll be the breeze after the storm is gone
To dry your eyes and love you warm

That's how strong my love is, baby,
That's how strong my love is,
That's how strong my love is, darling,
That's how strong my love is,

That's how strong my love is, so deep in,
Well, that's how strong my love is
So much love, yes so much love, oohh,
Yes so much love, yes so much love,
Anything that I can do, I'll be good for you,
Any kind of love you want, I'll be with you....

34. Once Upon a Time
Music by Charles Strouse, Lyric by Lee Adams, from the musical All American
Recorded by Frank Sinatra in 1965, as well as by Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, and others

Once upon a time a girl with moonlight in her eyes
Put her hand in mine and said she loved me so,
But that was once upon a time, very long ago.

Once upon a hill we sat beneath a willow tree,
Counting all the stars and waiting for the dawn,
But that was once upon a time; now the tree is gone.

How the breeze ruffled through her hair!
How we always laughed as though tomorrow wasn't there!
We were young and didn't have a care.
Where did it go?

Once upon a time the world was sweeter than we knew.
Everything was ours. How happy we were then!
But somehow once upon a time never comes again.

**********
Sweet lyric, but the music is even sweeter, and if the combination doesn't make you choke up, you'll never understand love and loss. Here are some YouTube versions.

Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love
Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love
Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end
Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love

My husband and I got married on an island in the West Indies all by ourselves so I put together a slide show for our families and put it on the wedding video. It's pictures of each of us growing up set to this song. Needless to say, mom was reaching for the hankies. :)

57. The unbelievable innocence of this song.....
and singer call to me. I also love the simple, evocative arrangement.

I don't think they make innocence like this anymore.

66. At Last by Etta James
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csoMt1CiP04&feature=related

At last, my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Oh, yeah, at last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clovers
The night I looked at you
I found a dream that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to rest my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
Oh, yeah when you smile, you smile
Oh, and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
For you are mine
At last

70. Billy Bragg, "The Only One"
Amateur, non-billy version
http://youtube.com/watch?v=pvqPdZ0ge9c

Billy Bragg The Only One lyrics

Sometimes when you lose your way to me
I think you don't care at all
If you don't get here soon
I'll tear that clock down from the wall
Your family and friends don't understand
They treat me so strange
The book you said to read
Well I have read but nothing's changed
The clocks go forward the clocks go back
Yet here I sit as if I were the only one
And oh you cannot hear me
Oh you cannot hear me
Can anybody hear me out there
He's up on his high horse again
You're down in the park
I'm left to fight my impulses alone here in the dark
The chain that fell off my bike last night
Is now wrapped round my heart
Sometimes I think that
Fate has been against us from the start
I long to let our love run free
Yet here I am a victim of geography
And oh you cannot hear me
Oh you cannot hear me
Can anybody hear me out there
She said kiss me or would you rather
Live in a land where the soap won't lather
And oh...
You know you are the only one
Yes you are the only one
Yes you are the only one
