There was a lot more to it, though, cultural things, etc. It was one of the best books I've ever read. Thanks for putting it out there for us all--I would recommend it! by the way..you didn't spoil the end. I'm glad you mentioned it!!

Japan has a very interesting culture and this book was a stand-out in my mind! It was very sad to me. If you want to read about other cultures and their views on/or constrictions on women, I would also recommend, "A Thousand Spledid Suns" too. This one made me cry. I am now reading "Kabul Beauty School", which also shines some light on Afganistan and it's culture via a woman's POV...I have some others to recommend, but I will have to dig in my memory banks...

Not a book but a film still why not throw out its name? "Osama," directed by Afghan director Siddiq Barmak gives an account of the life of a young girl in Kabul who is forced to dress up as a boy in order to feed her family (all women). It's really beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

I've had my share of shitty relationships. I just don't let anyone come back after I am done. (Used to kill 'em and bury em, but my backyard now is all "ledge"..the graves were getting too shallow...) Don't let that stupid guy ruin your whole outlook! You will get to a point in your life where you won't "need" someone, and then, that's when you will find the right person, don't you think?
