What are the best ways to cure ear mites in kittens?
Our new kitten seems to have ear mites. I've been reading on several websites about mineral oil and other home treatments as well as over-the-counter. We went through this with one of our older cats three years ago when she was a kitten and I don't think she has gotten over it to this day. (she hated the treatments) I had taken her to a vet and he gave her a prescription, but was wondering if there is any other natural remedy that works just as well.

I know many here have cats and I just wanted to know what has worked best for you. I've got to do something today. The little guy is shaking is head off and now my bigger cats are doing the samex(

1. I've always used what the vet provides...but I also clean the ears out as much as possible
with a soft cloth.

Good luck ... Hope your kitty gets rid of those pests soon!

2. Place said kitten in pre-heated oven at 350 degrees for 30 min.
That should do the trick. But seriously, try Olive oil. Warm it up slightly, and use a dropper. Massage it in the ears and try to keep it in there for awhile.

3. Eat them
The mites, not the kittens even if they are tasty.

4. We wrapped them in towels and gave them the ear drops. Worked for us.

5. I think your subject line indicates your problem

You indicate that you want to cure ear mites in kittens.

The mites are probably doing fine - as in the cliche "healthy as an ear mite in a kitten"

No, you don't want to cure the mites, what you want to do is get them out of the kittens ears ... actually, you mite want to add them to the list of species that we have driven to extinction ( http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/nature/an-epidemic-of-extinctions-decimation-of-life-on-earth-829325.html )

I hope this helps

6. OK, here's the real answer...
Either mineral oil or hydrogen peroxide, applied with an eyedropper into the ear canal and hold their ear flat shut for about 5 seconds. Then let them shake it out.
The mineral oil is good for coating and killing mites as well as softening all sorts of "cheat grass" that may be driving them to scratch their ear a lot, and the weak solution of hydrogen peroxide is for excess earwax buildup in cats, like when they shake their head a lot for no other reason.
My cat has actually learned to like the hydrogen peroxide for it's cleansing action, he'll signal me which ear needs it by flattening that one as opposed to the other when I fondle them both at the same time and let go of both at the same time.
Standard grade hydrogen peroxide bought at the drug store and mineral oil too along with a small dropper can't cost much more than $10.
Separately they cure a lot of kitty ear problems for almost no money.
My kitty boys both recommend them, they lick their mouths after I apply either in response to their ear distress.
But you can easily go pay a lot more... :hi:
