1. After a few hundred hours of use, the pixels and bits will start to wear down the sharp
corners and edges of your new intertubes connection, and things will begin to flow much faster.

I suggest downloading a lot of porn in the first one hundred hours, because porn has the requisite large amount of pixels n' bits, and it has the perfect mix of lubricants your tubes will need during the break-in period.

6. Oh yes sir! the porn producers lubed up the cable backbone
years ago, before the intertubes where just a sparkle in some telecom-based porn provider's eye.

3. Of course its slow.
It takes more time to have everything copied to the NSA's Big Brother room.

5. I take it you have a laptop air card?
Or did you get a 3g phone? If you have an aircard, make sure it is Rev-A.. Anything with less specs won't give you dl speeds higher than 700kbps. I'd recommend switching to Sprint, if you could. Sprint does absolutely no network filtering or traffic shaping, and they (unlike most other ISPs) have not outsold their bandwidth, meaning they can provide all the speed you need. The one bad thing about Sprint is you have to deal with crappy customer support. Other than that, they provide the best network, mainly because as one of 9 major backbones of the internet, you don't have to go through wasteful routes. (ATT and Verizon are part of the the 9). Also, sprint has no bandwidth caps on data usage-- both ATT and Verizon cap at 5gb and also have traffic shaping (not to mention that they provide the NSA with downstream copies of the traffic over their networks.) If you get a laptop connect card, you can buy a wireless router that allows you to plug the card into and can provide a traditional wifi network at home. One last thing, if you have packet prioritization, then ATT and Verizon will fuck you up, mainly because any packets sent with a level 5 priority are automatically moved to the lowest priority. Sprint, having all the bandwidth capabilities needed for any and all customers simutaneously, does not mess with the packets you send.
