Note to self: When putting meat in the freezer...
Include the year on the date.

I just cleaned it out. Dayum. When the freezer burn ice is completely obscuring your view of what form of meat it is...toss it!

And, next time I'm at the store wondering if we have any frozen peas at home...enough to last a lifetime!

And now I can go grocery shopping in peace. Amen. :P

:hi:

2. Do you have a vacuum sealer?
I love mine and it cuts down on the freezer burn ice.

I am guilty of buying a bag of frozen corn when I need about 1 cup, 3 times in a row.

6. I have a Food Saver I got years ago as a gift..
Edited on Sun May-18-08 04:24 PM by lizerdbits
Looks like they are $80-$300 depending on model. I think that was the only brand when I got one, I think there are more available now that may be cheaper. :)

3. I've got to start doing that, LOL.
I keep stuffing things in the freezer, though when I do wrap them up, I do include the date. But, just now, there's not even room for an additional ice cube... x(

7. I make up a shopping list every week with the sales from my local store...
They send me e-mail, so it's very easy. But I have no more room in the cupboard and I told you about the freezer. *sigh* Did I ever mention that my mother grew up with parents who ran a grocery store? It must be genetic...:hi:

10. I'm a biologist :-)

I'm in grad school, and my research is on how human modification of the landscape (roads, agriculture, etc) affects salamanders. So i look at their DNA to see how genetically isolated the populations are -- and whether that isolation is related to what types of landscapes are around.

The samples in my freezer are just waiting for me to take them in the lab and finish analyzing them... and i've been lazy.

13. That is extremely cool. And you can't be lazy if you're a biologist.
That was my best subject in HS, but the math gets to me, everytime. *sigh* But I have had a range of pets, also, frogs, turtles, a very special mouse (named after FDR), my rat that I brought home from Experimental Psych, eight dogs and three kitties. And I used to gerbil-sit for my little neighbor, LOL. But I have yet to adopt a salamander...:D

15. Wow that's a lot of critters!

:D

I've had a bunch also... i actually do have a salamander at my office, haha, along with a lizard and two dogs at home. We had a guinea pig but he just died last week. :( Probably for the best since i was terribly allergic to him!

This is the kind of sally i have at the office - a spotted salamander. They are very cute! :D

17. He is absolutely adorable!
But you must already know that I love animals, given my sig. I had Franklin for more years than most people would expect (my mouse), but I have given up on adopting the little things, since I just can't bear to lose them so soon. I adopt the older animals, which explains the numbers. I am currently sitting here with one two-year-old Brussels Griffon and a six-year-old Airedale. My guys come from rescue, and the little guy is the first puppy I've had since I was a kid. Now I know why I adopt the older ones... *sigh*

Here are my guys:

Jack:loveya:

And Charlie:loveya:

19. I know you're an expert on these little guys and I'm not, but he kind of reminds me of the tree
Edited on Sun May-18-08 05:17 PM by Rhiannon12866
frogs that we used to hear when I was a kid, when I lived up North. I once drove home and found one attached to the hood of my car, with his little sticky feet, and I wasn't sure what to do with him. I very carefully put him way out in the backyard, where he'd be close to some water. Was I right? I spent half the night out there with a flashlight, checking up on him...

on edit, he looked like this...

22. Aww, yeah you did great!

I'm sure he was happy to have his joy ride come to a safe end! :D

And you're right that they're similar -- both sallies and frogs are amphibians. Most people say salamanders remind them of lizards, which are reptiles, so you were much closer! :D

BTW your pooches are gorgeous! My journal has a bunch of photos of my two, because the little one just had a major medical procedure (valvoplasty to correct a heart defect). He is doing great though!

I finally threw out the corpse of my Christmas ham, since I never made soup with it, but something is still rotten in there. Garbage day is on Tuesday... x(

20. I need
to clean out our freezers.

Both of 'em.

I have some corn-dogs in the freezer in the garage that have been there for so long they bark at me and wag their tails when I open the door.
