Is Harrison Ford too old to be Indiana Jones?
Edited on Mon May-19-08 01:54 AM by woolldog
My god, isn't he like 60 years old? Is he going to be sleeping with a woman half his age in this movie too?

1. The "girl" he's sleeping with is 43 years old.
I guess that makes her a woman, no?

2. He kinda looks like Al Bundy, the way his face is scrunched up around the eyes.

But jowlier.

What a shame, he was hot back when the trilogy came out.

5. doesn't matter
1) Indiana Jones is immortal

and

2) George Lucas made some decision in the 90's to ruin anything he got his hands one, so we know that the movie will suck like nothing has sucked before, no matter what Harrison Ford does in it.

19. He's the same age as my mom, who just re-roofed part of my home last
year (alone) and rebuilt the pillar supports of my 1920's craftsman home's carport single handedly too. She does 200 sit ups and 100 push ups a day, and still fits into her clothes from college. There's nothing she can't do at 66 that she could do at 36, and I suspect that Ford is exactly the same way. Don't let a number and weathered packaging fool you!

20. Glad to hear YOUR mom has weathered 66 well...
My mom is not fit at all for her age. God help me if I get that way :eyes: I just took up biking again (and skiing too) at age almost 48 to get more fit. I can't say that I can wear my clothes from college unfortunately, thyroid disease took that away from me in 2003. :O

But I'll be damned if I am going to turn into a slug!! And get round with age!! NO WAY!

41. My mom's motto is "you are only old if you decide that you're old"
she refuses to call herself "old". Most of her friends are younger than me by a decade, sometimes more. She recently joined a gym to do weight training because lifting heavy furniture was starting to get difficult for her (she's always been freakishly strong, especially for a person who is only 5'2"). My dad, who she has been divorced from for 36 years, is the opposite. He's 67 and 450 pounds. He's so weak that he can barely carry in his groceries, while my mom can still move a full sized fridge by herself.Dad's motto is "that's just what happens to old retired guys" (sleeping most of the day, getting morbidly obese and having a pacemaker, diabetes, kidney stones, barely being able to walk etc). Obviously, I'm going to try to follow my mom's example as I advance in years!

16. The trailer where he flies backwards into the cab of the Nazi truck
and then punches out the two guys next to him is so fucking far-fetched.

You'd have to be Wolverine or Superman to get through that without a snapped back.

This movie hasn't inspired me to go see it at all.

The only thing I'm interested in comes out July 18

23. Not at all
Not at all. He seems to be holding the character up rather well and I for one am happy and a bit thrilled to be seeing it on Thurs evening (at 7:15, thank you very much) at the theater across from my apartment.

I mean, if we can dress a guy up in leotards and a cape, have him fly through the magic of film and be expected to believe that, well...

Let's just say that Indiana Jones at this age is quite a bit easier to digest than cars that turn into killer robots, or superheroes who have metal skeletons.

As I understand, the storyline has advanced into the 1950s, so he's properly aged in the role, and I think Shia is slated for an "apprentice/buddy" role. I think Shia will carry the action burden of the film; only a republican like stallone would try to remake Rambo as he was first portrayed.

37. The preview looks like shit.
It's all cgi. The whole point of Indiana Jones movies is to see Indiana Jones do stunts, not Indy's side kicks. Real stunts, not cartoon crap. And Ford just doesn't cut it anymore. And the villain looks like Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

I bet it'll be as bad as the Star Wars prequels. Forget Ford, Lucas and Spielberg are getting too old.

If you're right, it will be very disappointing.

I don't mind the concept of an aging Indie (probably because I'm aging mydamnself & my own stunts are pretty lame these days), but CGI & WiFu are way overdone.

42. They had that "Young Indiana Jones" TV show awhile back.
As a serial, I thought that was a good idea. You had Jones as the kid, the teenager, and the elderly man sitting on a bench in his museum. Neat idea.

But the movies themselves... these are supposed to be based on those old pre-forties comic books, like Captain Easy. Or Tarzan flicks. Something where you're got a strapping handsome action hero, a gorgeous dame in distress, the little kid (or ethnic) sidekick, and the dastardly villain. As much as I liked Ford in the earlier pics, I think they should recast the role.

44. I don't know.
It's an Indiana Jones movie so I'll definitely be seeing it in the theater. I grew up watching Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom. Like Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, I saw those movies over and over again during my formative years.

For the most part I was disappointed with the new Star Wars movies that came out recently. I don't want to be similarly disappointed with the new Indiana Jones brand, especially with a visibly older Indiana Jones.
