4. It was the funniest damned thing.
I was sleeping on the couch when she came in at 5:30, heaving this huge box. I said,"What the heck is that?" and she said,"It's my microwave!!" It may have been the early hour but I found it hilarious

6. It was especially difficult this year..
With her dad and then the illness and resulting surgery. We had some tough times in getting her to want to finish up. But finish up she did...wearing a National Honor Society sash, and hanging on to a scholarship. Tough for her but she made it.

20. A lot of colleges won't let you have one in the dorms anymore.
When I was an RA junior year of college they instructed us to confiscate them and give the owners a numbered notecard that they could pick it up at years-end from the res. hall office.

Also one fridge per room and no Foreman grills, hot-plates or sandwich-makers...actually the full list was funny.* We kept the matching numbered stub taped to the appliance.

Hell no, I did not confiscate any fridges or microwaves...I wasn't carrying them down 5 flights of stairs.

*-Also forbidden: curling irons, straightening irons, blow-dryers, steam irons, barbells, baseball bats, hockey skates, hockey sticks, goalie pads, golf clubs, lumber, kitchen knives, hammers, wine glasses, socks or bags of large quantities of loose change, and any object which we felt could potentially be used as a weapon based on our discretion. Also...condoms, personal massagers, birth control pills and the such. (It was a Catholic college). I wasn't confiscating any of those "personal" things either. I wasn't invited to serve again senior year. Oh yeah, we're a D-I hockey school so I kept getting dragged out of bed because one of my co-workers had confiscated half the team's equipment...repeatedly.

Advice to parents and first-time on-campus students: I would recommend calling the housing office of your college for a list of banned items...sometimes they ban random-assed things. One of the cross-town schools banned those Zen-waterfall fountains because they have a dry campus and some kid filled one with vodka to escape notice.

How did your Hippie boyfriend's graduation turn out?

And tell your sweet mama I said YO, and give her a big hug from me for accomplishing the most challenging task a parent is handed: raising a child into a wonderful, bright human being. She did good - you did good.

 to both of you, and the Hippie kid too.....JGD
