The cake from. hell.

I made this for MrLaraMN's 30th. It would have been nice if we'd gotten a pic of it before it started drooping, but Jack flooded our upstairs bathroom (which then leaked through our bedroom ceiling. again.) shortly before the party, so I was a bit off my photographic game.

Six layers. Homemade chocolate ganache (dyed black) and a crapload of homemade friggin' fondant (which sucked to make).

We also have enough leftover beer for the whole of DU- eight different kinds, even!

Did you buy the black dye, or mix it yourself? If you bought it, what was the brand and if you mixed it would you consider giving me your recipe? I've had bad luck with black dyes- this one looks pretty good!

10. I just used black gel coloring.

It's a lot more concentrated than regular liquid food coloring and doesn't make icing runnier. You can find it pretty much anywhere cake decorating stuff is sold. I used most of a half-ounce jar.

I never tried the gels, but I'll keep them in mind next time...
