Some Good Vibes For A Little Dog Please...

Keltie apparently ate something out of the trash maybe or somewhere and she was taken to the Vet Emergency Clinic because she was having severe seizures.

My 8 y/o son called me from the Vet clinic to tell me that she was there and "shaking" really bad :(

My almost ex wife told me that the dog had been having seizures and they hadn't been able to control them... that the dog had a fever over 108 deg Farenheit, and that if the dog didn't stop having seizures within an hour they would put the dog down.

My son is not totally aware of the situation, but he knows that she might die.

So some good vibes for the dog and for SPK jr who loves the little dog (who eats everything she sees)

:hi:

Thanks!

3. If it was truly something she ate, the EVet should be able
to stabilize the dog, stop the seizures and run a battery of blood tests to find the problem.

8 is barely middle aged for this dog, and I wish her the best. Every vibe I have is going her way.

5. Thanks... it's just a guess that the eating is the cause
I don't think they have a clue what it is. At this point she's had two big doses of valium and still seizing.

My son is 8, the dog is actually just 2 y/o herself. There is no telling what it is.

Thanks for your input, you are right 8 would barely be middle aged.

11. We've had two dogs in our family who had seizures.
I wasn't present for either time, but they figured that our Norwegian Elkhound had been poisoned by the crazy son of the neighbor that lived behind us. They at first said it was epilepsy, but the seizures did not stop.

My sister's dog got into some rat poisoning that was in the garage. The vet said if they could have figured it out earlier they could have done something (I never really bought the explanation they gave my sister)

As someone who loves animals more than human 99.9% of the time, your pup and your family have my prayers.

Jessie is sending healing Sheltie kisses, and we are sending all the get well vibes we can muster. I don't want to see this little dog go before its time.

Much love,
Laura, and Jessie (and Merlin the cat too...he's sort of partial to shelties now)

43. for Keltie...
Dear God, you have given us care over all living things; protect and bless the animals who give us companionship and delight, make us their true friends and worthy companions. Amen.

Dear God, protect and bless all beings that breathe, keep all evil from them, and let them sleep in peace. Amen.
--Albert Schweitzer, "Memoirs of Childhood and Youth"

Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St. Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless this pet. By the power of your love, enable it to live according to your plan. May we always praise you for all your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.
--Franciscan prayer

Eternal Spirit, we bring you our grief in the loss of Keltie and ask for courage to bear it. We bring you our thanks for Keltie who lived among us and gave us freely of her love. We commit our friend and companion Keltie into your loving hands. Give us eyes to see how your love embraces all creatures and every living thing speaks to us of your love. Amen.

Edited on Wed May-21-08 08:17 AM by Rhiannon12866
Someone else replied to someone who was also wishing you well. I am so very sorry. Such an adorable little dog and my heart breaks for your little boy, and for you.;(

I didn't have a good feeling when I read your post. My Sara was also on IV at the Emergency Clinic for one long and terrible weekend. The seizures returned whenever they took her off the valium, but you never lose hope in a case like this. My vet never did, just wanted to get her on an oral anti-convulsant so I could bring her home...

My first thought on reading your post was to ask my vet. He's one of us and has advised on DU pet posts before, and I've got his pager number. *sigh* But I'm sure that your girl was in the best hands possible. I've met numerous vets and techs who work at the Animal Emergency Clinic I've dealt with and they are the most amazing people. Some also work rescue and one of them placed my little Jack with me.:-)

I also lost my little terrier, Sara, as I probably told you. That was two years ago, last month. I was getting my coat on because they called and said that Meneken and I could visit her, when they called again and said she'd done into cardiac arrest. I had signed the "resuscitate" clause on the form, so told them to please keep her with us, but they couldn't bring her back. ;(

So Sara made the decision for me. It must have been much more difficult for you. But I've been there and done that too, and I know what courage and love that takes.

Please know that you are all in my thoughts, especially your little boy. The vet tech who was kindest to me when I lost Meneken last year, an incredibly talented vet tech who has known my guys and was so good to them, has incredible compassion, had the same situation with his own small son who's around the same age. He told me all about it, maybe trying to reassure me. I don't know. But he said that his little boy came to his own understanding of what happened. Whether this was the right course of action, I don't know.

Please know that I understand, if that helps at all, and, though it never gets easier, you'll get through this. Your pup was very fortunate when she found you.:-)

Rhiannon:hug:
