A spider bit me on the face (unforunately not a joke)
Edited on Tue May-20-08 11:56 AM by Ava
i assume it happened while i was sleeping. it was obviously a preconceived plot... i'm not sure what i did to piss the spider off though.

yesterday it was looking bad.. today the swelling is down and the meds i've been putting on it are helping it start to heal and clear up. i've still got a bandage on my face though

spiders are evil bastards

2. I'm sorry Ava.
A spider bit Little MB right near the eye about a year ago, and I kept her home from school because it was so swollen, they would have probably called CPS on me or something.

I hope you feel better really soon.

I was bit by a Spider once and the swelling lasted for a week, and every time I touched it it would really hurt

4. yeouch! Where?
I woke up one morning with my eye swollen shut, and I was grossed out thinking I had a stye or something. Turned out I'd been bitten on the eyelid in the middle of the night - just a small little house spider who must've dropped from the ceiling, but still. Freaked me out a bit.

Hope it's all better soon!

I generally like spiders, so long as they're not on my person. Biting is not a very lovable trait.

6. Yuck. I hate those things in the house.
I hope you are feeling better!!! Try an ice pack, Tylenol and, most importantly, about 50 milligrams of Benadryl every six hours or so for a few days. The Benadryl can make you sleepy though. So if you have to be alert, just take them at night. They are definitely evil bastards!!!

8. Awwww, Ava.

I sure hope you're feeling better. God, that sucks. Happened to me a long time ago, when I was 16 and working the summer at a campground - by a brown recluse spider. Damn near killed me because I ignored it, thinking it was just a bad mosquito bite.

So you've seen a doctor? I hope so, but if you haven't....do yourself a favor and take your temperature every once in awhile. It was the 105 degree fever that landed me in the hospital. ER took one look at my arm, brought a couple docs in, and one muttered "brown recluse", whipped out some pictures in a book that showed bites that other people had gotten, and my arm was a perfect match.

Not trying to scare you, just letting you know to keep an eye on it, okay?

xoxo

I've heard about the brown recluse spider bite...Around here we mostly have black widows to really worry about...Were you living out west when you got the bite? I didn't think they were really around here...

11. All spiders are venomous to some degree
Because that's how they catch their prey. So any spider bite can cause an allergic reaction. I've had a couple of them and they can really swell up and be uncomfortable.

Funny story about a spider bite. I got bit on the hand once. Didn't notice until late afternoon that there was a red spot and a little swelling near the base of my thumb. It was the weekend and I didn't want to deal with the ER so I told my husband that if the swelling got up to my wrist, I'd go in and get it looked at.

So we sat down to play cards. After about an hour or so, I realized the swelling had reached my wrist. It hurt, too, kind of deep in the joint. But by now, it was about 6pm and I REALLY didn't want to go anywhere. I told him if it went to my elbow, I'd go to the ER.

So we continued to play cards. As we played, we could actually see the swelling moving slowly up my arm. It was strange and kind of fascinating. By about 8, it had reached my elbow.

Well, who wants to go to the ER at 8pm? My arm was kind of numb and pretty well useless but being the stubborn type, I remarked that I would go to the ER if the swelling reached my shoulder.

So we played on. And the swelling continued to creep. And we continued to watch it. It finally stopped about 4 inches below my shoulder. I went to bed at about midnight and the next day, Monday, called in sick to work and went to see my doctor who simply rolled his eyes and told me I was very silly.

Now I keep Benadryl around just in case.

19. what's benadryl going to do? i met someone who lost his arm to brown recluse bite
it sounds like you were lucky but that you, your husband, and your doctor are all quite irresponsible

if it had been a brown recluse you could have lost the limb

10. I guess the spider was expressing his opinion on your new hair style?
:hide:

j/k

Glad you're getting better.

I've never been bitten by a spider, but I heard somewhere that during the average adult's lifespan, he or she eats 4 spiders while sleeping.

:scared:

12. A good reason for you to attend college here in the Northeast
very few dangerous animals of any kind up here - hardly any dangerous spiders, snakes, etc

no scorpions, fire ants, killer bees, etc.

I think a study a few years back concluded that the safest spot in all of the US was somewhere near Storrs, CT (that also factored in weather as well)

14. I either got bit by a spider, or stung by a bee last night.
I felt it happen, but it was dark outside so I'm not sure what it was. We are having our house fumigated for termites tomorrow so I was moving out the wool clothes, and I was hanging them up outside, and all of a sudden ZAP - a sharp pain on my arm and today it is swollen and red, and an area about 5 inches in diameter hurts. Fortunately I'm not allergic to bee stings. My cat also scratched me yesterday when we were holding him so the vet could give him his shots. I guess it's nature getting back at me for all the termites we are going to have killed tomorrow.

17. Watch it.
When a spider bit me on the face it swelled up so much I couldn't open my eye. The Dr. told me I was about a day away from permanent nerve damage and I had to take two huge antibiotic shots in my ass. Get well, but watch out.
