A cat question: We've had a variety of cats, gray tigers, yellow tigers,
long hairs, gray etc. We noticed that the two stand out cats for purring were both white with splotches. One had yellow tiger splotches, the other is a long hair with black splotches. Is it possible that non-stop purring is tied to this fur pattern?

3. Well, the cat we have now is a "Hitler" cat, but we call her Siggy
because my husband says she looks more like Sigmund Freud! I think these cats are called Harlequin cats. The white and gray tiger cats in the other picture look like our old cat Bill, except she had orange tiger patches.

4. Hmmmm...
I have a cat that looks a lot like the cats in your sig (except mine has orange tiger stripes) and he does, indeed, purr a LOT.

5. The two all-time purrers I ever knew
were an orange tabby male (no white) and a "Talico", that is, a calico with little gray striped patches where the black would normally be.

6. My biggest purrer is a tortie.
You just look at her and her motor starts. And talkie! Never had a cat that talked as much as her.

8. I never met a tortie who wasn't a purr machine and talker!
My old cat turtle would "meow" non stop..You called my house, you knew in 30 seconds that I had a cat...

10. Our tortie purrs like a little engine, too.
But she squeaks rather than meows, and it's only when she's in need of something (attention, food, and the like).

7. My two orientals, Lily and Pad Thai are the loud purrers
Charley, my orange and white, purrs softly. But he was feral for a long time and may have forgotten how.

vibrates the furniture.

My 3 young boys have really crappy purrboxes. Their mother had a crappy purr box too. The boys are two gray cats with subtle striping and the other is black, even to his toenails. The mom was a shaggy tortie.

Prior to Thomas, my best purr machine was a monster black/grey tabbie named Atlas.

edited to add: nice to see you, been wondering about Lily and Pad Thai.

9. My cat is also quite the purr-er,
she looks a bit like the kitties in the second pic, except she is a dark cream color on her belly with leopard spots, and a bright orange spot on top of her head between her ears.

She also playes dead kitty, but that is because my father had way too much free time when we first got her. =)

12. Purr monster - that's what my husband calls Siggy. BTW - my husband
is making great strides in recovering from abdominal surgery. I tell him it's from the constant warm massage of having the purr monster sit in his lap.

13. The new black kitty and the old black kitty are both hugely ridiculous
in the decibel levels acheived by their, almost nonstop, purring.

17. Pretty good. He doesn't dislike him as much as he disliked Licorice
when she arrived on the scene. Even though the kitten is cleared, I want to take him to our vet to be positive before letting them really hang out together. But, boy, does Merlin look super huge now.
