Anybody with yahoo email? Is there a way to turn off those annoying ads?
I get these ads every time the screen moves on my email account and an ad pops up taking up half the reading pane. Normally, I can see a place to lock the window open when I use other email systems (like Outlook or Lotus Notes at work) so I don't have to see the friggin' ads. But, I can't figure out how to do that with yahoo email?

Any help?

1. Check your browser to see if it has an option to block pop-ups.

3. it's not a pop up, though
it's an ad in my in-box that cuts the reading pane of the window in half. The problem is, that I can hide the advertisement, but if I read another email, or close the current email, another ad cuts my reading pane in half again.

2. Try right click adblock...
I know it works with Firefox, IE should have a comparable feature. (May be an add-on.)

4. Those ads pretty much ARE Yahoo.
It's all about the clicks.

To get rid of them you can either use a Firefox plugin like Adblock Plus, or pay Yahoo $30 a year for POP3 account access and just download your mail to your own email client.

6. Doesn't really work

I tried it as an add-on, but it doesn't work. It blocks the advertisement, but the reading pane keeps changing size. Only, instead of having an ad in it, it's blank.

I honestly don't care about the ads, I just want the damn window to stay the same size all the time.

10. Have you tried playing around with the preferences?

I think you can change how AdBlock displays the blank space. You might be able to set it up the way you like it.

7. to clarify - i want the reading pane to stay the same size
i could really care less about the ads. It's the annoying ad box.

I just hate having a six inch wide reading window shrink to 3-4 inches wide every time I click on a new email or scroll down in a long email. the problem is, it scrunches up everything else, and I have to hide the ad box again in order to do things like hit "sign out"

11. I just took a look
They gave me a mail account when I subscribed to MyYahoo for a web portal. I never use it though (use GMail) and now I know why. That is annoying. I don't see a way around it as it's coded directly into the page. If you're using FireFox you might try the greasemonkey add-on and see if there are any scripts to handle it.

14. I use Firefox
I rarely use internet explorer.

it's not a problem with pop-ups, it's that the ad box itself can't be shut off.

16. I had the same problem. Create a new Yahoo account & opt for "Mail Classic"...
Yahoo's "Mail Classic" gives you what you want (full window).

With out having to create a new account.

18. but then
the "classic" version sucks even more - it's a lot more difficult to sort the emails and/or to delete them and/or move them to spam.

23. Might I suggest you ditch Yahoo immediately?
I dumped it after I learned a dirty little secret: if someone doesn't like you, they can shut down your account forever just by trying to log in with the wrong password15-20 times. Other services will make you type in a verification code after a number of failed login attempts, but Yahoo will kill your account DEAD.

Seriously, go with GMail.
