Talk about miracles

I'm in a room filled with people like me. I raise my hand and start talking about the recent death of someone in my family and my twenty year estrangement from them due to my and their addictions. I lose it. I get more emotional than I planned and mention how grateful I am that through this event, my brother called me after 6 years of silence.

I end my spiel and then from the back of the room a man starts talking. He tells me I am his family, he loves me and he always will. It is my cousin whom I have not seen in about 5 years. He has moved to within 10 miles of where I now live. We drank together and got sober at the same time. Just when I need family the most, he appears. Man...

My cousin is a powerful example of serenity and sobriety. His entire family died of alcoholism and yet, he is grateful and so generous and forgiving and filled with acceptance for everyone.
