I am planning a marathon of zombie movies this weekend...
I will be watching:
Night of the Living Dead (Original and remake, but not 3D)
Dawn of the Dead (Original and remake)
Day of the Dead (Original, but not the remake)
Land of the Dead
Diary of the Dead
Zombi 2
Shaun of the Dead

Any other suggestions? (And no, 28 Days/Weeks later are not zombie movies so I shan't be watching those, as much as I love them.)

1. 'I Was a Zombie for the FBI'
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0138508/

It's a rather campy satire of '50s zombie flicks made by film students at the University of Memphis in 1982.

The satire's the best part. If you take it seriously, you probably won't enjoy it.

Re: Your Brains
by Jonathan Coulton

Heya Tom, it's Bob from the office down the hall
Good to see you buddy, how've you been?
Thing have been OK for me except that I'm a zombie now
I really wish you'd let us in
I think I speak for all of us when I say I understand
Why you folks might hesitate to submit to our demand
But here's an FYI: you're all gonna die screaming

All we want to do is eat your brains
We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We'll all come inside and eat your brains

I don't want to nitpick, Tom, but is this really your plan?
To spend your whole life locked inside a mall?
Maybe that's OK for now but someday you'll be out of food and guns
And then you'll have to make the call
I'm not surprised to see you haven't thought it through enough
You never had the head for all that bigger picture stuff
But Tom, that's what I do, and I plan on eating you slowly

All we want to do is eat your brains
We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We'll all come inside and eat your brains

I'd like to help you Tom, in any way I can
I sure appreciate the way you're working with me
I'm not a monster Tom, well, technically I am
I guess I am

I've got another meeting Tom, maybe we could wrap it up
I know we'll get to common ground somehow
Meanwhile I'll report back to my colleagues who were chewing on the doors
I guess we'll table this for now
I'm glad to see you take constructive criticism well
Thank you for your time I know we're all busy as hell
And we'll put this thing to bed
When I bash your head open

All we want to do is eat your brains
We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes
All we want to do is eat your brains
We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise:
If you open up the doors
We'll all come inside and eat your brains

4. "Re-Animator" is pretty awesome as far as horror-comedy goes.
I also noticed you had "Zombi 2" on the list. Another Fulci flick I'd suggest, though it may not meet the strict definition of "zombie movie," is "The Beyond" - just don't try to make linear sense of the plot, because you can't, and that's not the point anyway.

5. Braindead(also known as Dead Alive) is a decent film if you like gore...
the Lawnmower scene in particular is pretty, uhm, bloody.

6. The only one I could ever stand (aside from Shaun of the Dead) was "Night of the Comet."
And that's probably not Zombie, either.

9. there's a Day of the Dead remake?
.... anyway... and, is Diary of the Dead out on DVD already?! I want to see it so bad.

28 Days/Weeks Later are Zombie movies, but I think we've had this argument before....

With that in mind, I would recommend The Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price. There are loads of early zombie movies, but I can barely separate them in my mind... I remember that there was one that was really good and funny though - just watch every movie from before 1950 with "Zombie" in the title, and you'll see the one that I'm thinking of.

In the Romero vein, I'd recommend one called Severed (also called 'Forest of the Dead', but there's a newer movie that also has that title). It's only a few years old, but I reallly liked it.

I don't know whether or not you'd consider a zombie movie, but probably more so than you would the '28' movies (there's a twist in this one, but there are also living dead..), is an Australian movie called Undead - it's really really good, and you'll be giving yourself a treat if you watch it.

In the Fulci vein, Zombie 3, which he worked on, isn't all bad, but it's certainly no Zombi 2/Zombie/Zombie Flesh Eaters. Hell of the Living Dead is another good Italian one from the same time period - I think both have soundtracks by Goblin, which is always a good thing.

Whatever you end up watching, I'm incredibly jealous - I haven't seen a zombie movie in a long time.... I should get a DVD player.

21. It came out this year, and it's apparently awful, haha.
Yeah, Diary is out, which is what sparked my marathon idea.

We probably have had this conversation before, haah. NOT zombies, haha. Zombie = undead. The infected in 28 Days/Weeks Later are not the undead.

I'll keep the rest in mind though, thanks!

27. well, undead does not equal living dead
Anyway.... that doesn't really matter. In the early Zombie movies, the zombies were not always the living dead, they were often these bizarre hypnotized people, controlled by some sort of sorcerer. So, I think a zombie does not have to be one of the living dead (one who has died and come back to life). The undead, on the other hand, have not died, but would have if it weren't for something else preventing it, such as being a vampire. Zombie research is an important. Do see if you can get Undead though - it's a really nice movie, and I remembered that there is also another movie called Severed that isn't a zombie movie - the one you'd want is Canadian, and set in a logging camp.

29. There is a difference between a voodoo zombie and an living dead zombie, yes.
But in modern parlance, zombie is generally considered to be one who has been infected with solanum or other such virus, has died and then come back, generally for the purpose of brain consumption. :P

In 28 Days/Weeks Later, they are just people who have been infected with the Rage virus and are still alive. That's where I draw the differentiation. They have not died and once they do die, they don't come back to life.

And the whole living dead/undead thing is just semantics. Undead can refer to both what you refer and to those that were dead and have come back.

Very funny and incredibly scary too. I have it one DVD, and it still has all the politically incorrect statements that are now always edited out.

11. Try 1943's "I Walked with a Zombie"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036027/

And why, incidentally, are 28 Days/Weeks Later not zombie films? Just curious.

Shaun of the Dead is an absolute classic though, for sure.
