Bah! We don't need no stinking electrician!
Today I learned the difference between a single-pole wall switch and a three-pole switch - the hard way.
Shocking, to say the least.

Anyone else have any DIY horror stories?

2. No...I hire pros now.
Not that it helps...my cousin is a general contractor, that didn't stop him from cutting wires willy-nilly and shutting off half my house while I was at work one day. I'm no better, I put a sledgehammer through a support column because I thought the column was ugly and didn't know it was functional, not decorative.

5. I think you should wait for the electrician, or someone like him.

6. I'm a complete chicken-shit when it comes to electrical work
I won't even change out a light switch. Changing a bulb or fuse is as comfortable as I can get.

7. I'm no good at that kind of stuff. Anytime I try to DIY a repair, it's a horror story.
I have Paul instead. Paul is my handyman/guardian angel. He's a great guy and I trust him- I could let him into of my house with a shitpile of money laying around, and it would all be there when I got back. He does beautiful work, and if something's over his head, he finds a good specialist, makes the arrangements, and comes over to help/keep an eye on them.
