*Sigh*... humans
How did we ever evolve to be like this?



Surely not everything we do is survival-related



Is there not room for randomness in our natural selection?



After all, it is the randomness of our lives that gives us those moments when we can be the most "human"



For every great hour in our lives, for every great thing we do...



there are a million ordinary moments...



and perhaps a few hundred remarkably stupid ones to keep us humble.



It is the balance of those things--the brilliant, the mundane, and the catastrophic--all tied up in the neat package of our ability to love, that makes us so wonderful, and so human.

But it doesn't make us unique.
