Remember we got adopted this weekend? The little girl that owned her came to get her

apparently the cat got outside and they had been searching for her for over a day. They had been doing door to door searches. When they knocked on my door, I had "shadow" in my hands and she jumped into the little girl's hands. The little girl looked to be about 8 or 9 and started crying when she found her kitty. The mom thanked me for taking care of "Millie" and they left.

I only had Shadow for 4 days, but I feel heartbroken.

Spooky on the other hand is quite happy

4. We got adopted on Saturday and they came on Tuesday
I didn't mention this fact...

when "shadow" showed up in our garage, she looked like she had been outside for days...

but I didn't mention that either

I just hope they take care of her

if she comes back, I might not be so quick to hand her over again. I think she had been neglected

8. If she jumped into the little girl's arms
it's a fairly safe bet that they take care of her. Animals don't go back to people who treat them like crap.

Long-haired cats who are used to being indoors can look pretty rough really quickly. We had an indoor-outdoor Maine Coon who spent a lot of time every day grooming himself. If he didn't, he would have looked homeless in a matter of hours, not days. If Millie was lost for even a couple of days, she was probably too stressed to worry about grooming.

You did a good thing.

29. I took our new cat to the vet yesterday and found out that "she" was
really a "he" who had been very thoroughly neutered, shall we say. Siggy has long hair, so it took even the vet some effort to determine this! Anyways, upon hearing that Siggy was originally found wandering in a blizzard and is very people friendly, our vet suggested that he might not have been abandoned as we thought but may have gone off wandering. He said that often times a young cat's mythical homing instinct is just that - mythical!

10. Well see,,,,
I think you also learned something about Spooky the anti-Cat (love the picture)..I think maybe having a kitty companion will calm him down (eventually) and maybe make him more affectionate towards you...

12. I think you are right
when "shadow/millie" was here, I was sure to pet them both equally and at seperate times.

after shadow/millie left, I picked up spooky and he actually let me hold him and pet him for about 5 minutes and he PURRED but then he had enough and bit me and jumped down

22. that sounds like a good idea -- and if you can find an older
cat (adult, not kitten) that would be wonderful. Kittens are darling, but easy to adopt out, while many sweet adult cats get overlooked.

I would have cried, too, to have Shadow/Millie go away.

25. well this is one of those good news bad news and they are the same news things
just think how relieved the family is to know kitty was well cared for!
just think about the stress and anxiety the kitty did not have because she was with you

just think about the increased apreciation Spooky may have for you now that kitty is gone LOL

a house guest pet can be a nice thing, and you were good to her

this happened to us with a dog a few years ago. The Tale of Sydney lasted a week and I was so happy to find his family for him

Maybe I will write that up for Journal..we did not have Journal on DU back then.

Stars and Rainbows to you O8) :toast:  :yourock:

and bittersweet as well.

I've lost a couple of cats including my darling little Kira 5 years ago, and I only wish I had had an ending like that. To this day, I never heard anything.

I feel your loss, too. I would say, though, that if you have the heart big enough to take in another cat, you should go to the pound (or over to petfinder.com) and get one of your own. An older kit, the opposite sex from your little devil, would be a nice addition. :)

Don't worry: Milly thanks you for taking care of her when things seemed hopeless, and that she might never see her family again.

Edited to add: Someday I will learn how to spell check. :)
